New York City is still deciding whether to reopen public schools before the 2019-2020 year ends in June.

Mayor de Blasio said Thursday that the city will decide in the coming days if students will have in-person learning this school year.

“Series of conversations happening right now to decide do we have one last chance to open them up in person before it’s too late for the school year,” the mayor said at a briefing. “Do we have a realistic opportunity to get the schools back up for a meaningful enough period of time? I think we are a couple of days away — two, three days probably away from getting to that decision.”

The state already closed public schools through the end of April.

De Blasio said “a lot of kids aren’t logging on” to their socially distanced classes, but couldn’t say how many were or were not attending.

“It’s a problem we predicted, unfortunately,” he said.

I posted this is n the HL thread, and want to post it here, too. Every single positive thought and prayer helps!
I just wanted to give everyone an update on my wife. She had a sinus infection, and because of the pandemic, we didn’t really categorize it as that serious and didn’t go to the hospital. Yesterday she became incoherent so I called an ambulance. They took her to the hospital, and I am not allowed to go be with her. The infection spread to her brain, and she is now in critical condition, and they are going to do brain surgery today. I am a fukking mess, I am broken, fetal position sobbing. Our daughter had to come and collect me, and tell me to be strong for her, I’m trying. I can’t hold my wife’s hand right now. I’ve never hurt this much in my whole entire life. I only ask that you folks pray and send positive thoughts my wife’s way, please, if anybody dislikes me on this board, or has a beef with me, I apologize for whatever, just please send positive thoughts and prayers towards my wife, she is my everything, my whole entire world, and nothing in the world means anything to me if I don’t have her with me. Please be safe out there, and let everyone you know that you love them! Please. A lot of y’all is like family to me even though we don’t really know each other irl, and I love you!

Thank you soo much everyone, the support everybody has shown me and my family on here has been absolutely awesome, uplifting, inspiring. I have been crying reading all the well wishes, and support. I actual feel the positive energy, and I am humbled in ways that I can't describe. The worst part is that the hospital is so slammed that I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone, but I have to assume at this point no news is the best news. My MIL actually got through about an hour ago, and they gave her a very brief update that her fever broke, and she tested negative for Covid (God is great). They are monitoring her 24/7, and have chosen not to do the invasive brain surgery at this moment because they are pumping 6 different antibiotics into her at the same time, and she will definitely require surgery at some point, but there is still somewhat of a chance that they can turn the infection around/decrease its severity, and the invasive surgery will be a final option. I am so thankful that she was coherent enough when she left in the ambulance to acknowledge that I said "I love you" and said it back, because if worst comes to worst, or if it was me in the situation, that would mean everything to me, and it is the only thing that I can actually find peace and tranquility in right now. Some of you folks on here, especially in HL where I post the majority of my thoughts know how angry and passionate I am most of the time, but also know how much I adore/worship my wife. I feel I was put on this earth to love and protect her, and I am so humbled and helpless right now. I honestly don't think that you all can/will ever know how grateful I am to all of you for taking time out of your day to think about/send positive energy/pray for my family, I am so much more appreciative than you all will ever know! I honestly truly hope every single one of you have/find somebody in your life that makes you feel how I feel about my wife, it's been my life's greatest accomplishment being her husband, and my job is not over yet. Please stay safe, and healthy, and let your loved ones know how much they mean to you!
