no im not, he did a nice thing for this couple, now he has to pay? it wouldn't matter if it was a gay couple or a straight couple, it's beyond unfair. you saying this couple doesn't have the means to provide for a child, then why have one???Not sure why you'refor this man....a child can never have enough resources as far as Im concerned, and his dumb ass put himself on the hook for 18 years. Its about the child...you're turning this into some stupid gender angst bullsht. Do you.
I get that it kinda sucks for him, because this arraignment of child support was not the intent of the parties involved, but its hard for me to garner sympathy for someone who acted so dim-witted when it comes to such a serious matter. He could have went to a reputable and licensed sperm bank if he simply wanted to do something nice and legal, or he could have involved an MD to absolve himself of any legal responsibility.
He chose not to do any of these things, and somehow handing his seeds over to some lesbian couple in a motel w/ any due diligence seemed wise to him. Well, he and he alone made himself legally responsible for the child, so I look on the bright side that the child will now have more resources available for a good life, and perhaps the father will take an active role as well. Im not interested in crying over this guy because hes an idiot.
well talk about a lesson learned its best to handle these things legitimately through sanctioned type of places

Im sure he was paid....the reason why he did this, and not through the legal way which would have completely absolved him of all responsibility, is probably owed to how stringent the physical and psychological testing is in order to qualify to become a donor. Thats why he tried this under the table mess. I doubt he would have passed those tests.
The couple could have done the same thing! Did he force them to use his sperm???? did he pour his sperm into her vagina??? Are you implying that, without his help, the couple couldn't provide for their child? I'm not saying it wasn't an ill-advised decision, I'm saying why is he the only idiot in this story? they sought out a random sperm donor on craigslist

But for real though, the contract may have seemed like it would suffice but in order for the mother to receive any type of government assistance the first thing she must do is put the father on child support.

What you bolded was my response to this whole idea that he was doing something "nice", and now we have to feel sorry for him because of that. He could have easily went through the proper legal channels in order to commit this "nice" act he so desperately wanted to do, and completely absolved himself of any responsibility for the child's future in the process. He tried to do some slick under the table sht, and he got caught. The state takes caring for a child very seriously, and when you fukk around like this the consequences can be steep. 18 years steep to be exact. Again...this is about the child.

I dont think hes being vilified...he's just being held legally responsible for his actions. If he wants to make a case that he should take custody of his legally recognized child, because these women are potentially unfit parents, then by all means he should do that.

Edit: Im sure the women did this because they are of lesser means, and going through a licensed sperm bank is expensive. In the story it said they are on welfare.
