This is exactly why I barely use a savings account and the majority of my money is in mutual funds.

I can't think of too many scenarios where id need a ton of cash right away

There is a difference between whipping out the debit card or liquidating some non-retirement positions vs. taking a credit card and paying the statement balance before the clock runs out vs. putting it on the card and paying finance charges.

Also, 2k may not be a life-destroying amount but that's going to be a headache (major or minor) for 90%+ of people.

Yeah I usually keep 2-3K in checking accounts for immediate emergencies where I'd need cash. Then worst case scenario have 60K in investments I could always sell part of if in a serious pinch even though that's worst case scenario.

$1700 water pump can’t be anything but a German piece of shyt...what is it, BMW, Merc or something British?

Nope… it’s a damn Buick Regal. The major cost was the labor because apparently they had to remove a bunch of stuff to get to the water pump. The pump issue also caused an issue with the coolant and they had to change the thermostat as well.
