I was rewatching some episodes today and I started thinking if there is any chance this show could ever be made in today’s Me Too climate? :heh:

The show was a male fantasy and It was a so popular at the time that even Obama was admitted big fan.

There is no way Ari’s character could ever exist on such a large platform, let alone have the president of the U.S admitting to being a fan.

It’s crazy how things have changed in a few years.

Yeah it could.
They make nikkas getting killed and being drug dealers and gang members all damn day and say it's art and an imitation of life as a reason to keep making it.
They'd use the same excuse for a poppin show if they want to.

But could they get away with the chauvinism and gay jokes?

Ari couldn’t get away with the way he talked to his wife and His gay assistant.

The fat aggressive producer that they screwed out of the Pablo Escobar movie.

I was just Googling it. I don't even remember that plotline outside of the Medellin movie will they/won't they.

Anyway, as for the original point of this thread - I don't know if the show could/would be made right now. I know if it was I probably wouldn't watch it.

Entourage (to me) was of a time and for a time. I don't think it was that good in hindsight, and I wouldn't care about watching a show about 4 white guys from Boston surfing on minimal talent and one guys good looks trying to fukk white girls with no ass

EDIT: Reading that last part back felt a bit more "Twitter Liberal" than I intended, but I stand behind the sentiment :lolbron:

It's been a while since I watched this show - who was this character?

He was the fat guy who would go OFF everytime Vince and the gang stiffed him on an opportunity. He offered Vince two movie roles that he turned down and then offered to buy Medellien and they turned him down. He ended up buying the movie for one dollar and released it straight to DVD.

The OP is definitely right about one thing though. Ari could NOT exist as a television character The way he was written on the show. Dude used to go INNNNNNNN on his gay assistant Lloyd (which would be the main issue)

True. But Ari was probably the only character that had levels and dimensions.

The rest of the show was 2D. Ari was 3D. But a couple of those dimensions would have Twitter on fire in 2020.

Ari was definitely 3D and had levels to him but the shyt that made him hilarious and interesting was his take no prisoners do-what-I-say attitude. The interest in him was gleaned from peeling back his persona to find that he was a devoted family man and really cared about Vince and his career. He also really cared about Lloyd and was devastated when he left him. All of that is lost without his a$$hole demeanor.

It can be argued that, besides E and possibly Johnny, Ari is the best developed character on the entire show. His storylines were better than any and all of the core “guys” (except Johnny towards the end)

Breh, I get what you mean about “Twitter Liberal” angle. I’m watching the episode where the mayor gets exposed by TMZ for getting in a car with a transgender person. They were mad flagrant with the “transphobia”. They were throwing words like “Tranny”, “He-She” with impunity. :heh:

It even made me uncomfortable.

:dead:

This show would be undoubtedly problematic today. What’s crazy to me is how much society and what is acceptable behavior has changed in less than ten years.
