Pence Visited School Where Student Is in Coronavirus Quarantine

A Florida student whose classmates shook hands last Friday with Vice President Mike Pence has been quarantined after his mother came into contact with a coronavirus patient.

President Donald Trump appointed Pence to lead the U.S. government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, but the vice president was in Florida on Friday mainly for campaign fundraisers. The visit to Sarasota Military Academy didn’t appear on his public schedule.

A representative for Pence said the vice president did not come into contact with the affected student. The coronavirus has infected at least 100 Americans and killed six.

That means there is a severe shortage of the tests. And the whole have you traveled outside the country question, is almost secondary now that there are so many potential infection points within the country.

The World Health Organization just announced a new estimated fatality rate of 3.4%

For perspective, this is the pandemic "scale" the US government previously created in 2006. 3.4% is well into Category 5...2006 was a while back. The population is higher now, so higher population = more people infected. This scale also assumes a 30% infection rate (normal for flu), which is likely going to be too low for COVID-19.
