Always said the virus isn't the problem, it is the response.
Shocked they aren't ready to even test people yet. They had 2 months.
great vid. This initial response from the US has been sad. Even leading with the criteria of:
1. Have you been to China or
2. Have you been around someone with Covid-19
was laughable and completely counterproductive when people from day one were flying out of China to Thailand and taking direct flights into the US for weeks.
And to now have expanded that criteria but not have the test ready to go?!?! Smfh
The response across the board in the US still feels faaar too reactionary. Hopefully we get on the ball soon and get this situation mitigated because since we didn’t contain it, we are at its mercy.
Once we get a handle on this in a year or 2 (with treatments, vaccines) there needs to be sustained multi-billion dollar efforts towards proactively building an appropriate infectious disease infrastructure to answer the call of the next “superbug” because we might not be as fortunate to get an either or type virus next go around. The next mutated strain of influenza or zoonotic Coronavirus could be “the big one” and we can’t afford to be left flat footed if a “SARS-Cov-3” comes around with the same level of infectiousness/latency as this current Coronavirus but the disease progression of SARS-1 or lord forbid MERS.
the sad thing is for country’s like Iran, and I think there will be many others.. they cant afford to make the mistakes the US and China has and it could cost them 10s to 100s of thousands of lives unnecessarily.
