:mjcry:Well brehs...my mom dodged Covid for 2.5 years only to catch a super rare cancer that metastasized all over the place before they found it, and she's got maybe 6-12 months. There's essentially nothing to do. It could be a little more or less time. She never smoke or drank, and she ate pretty well. No history of cancer in our family. I'm soul crushed. I didn't know where else to post this here that made sense. But I love a lot of you, and I wanted to share, if for no other reason than I need some love. I'm going through it really hard out here.

that really sucks, breh. i'm sorry to hear that.

I got COVID this week. Spread through my whole damn family (including in-laws) and we are vaxxed/boosted and had Omicron in February.

We think we got it on a plane. Make sure you N95 up on these planes. This new BA.5 variant evades vaccine and Omicron 1.0 immunity. Even the doc was shocked we got it again so soon.

wifey and i are thankfully still covid free.

So how dem antibodies work? You immune after you catch it?
The virus keeps mutating, we just stopped reporting on all the variants. Still not as severe as others it seems but I did read something that implied repeat infections does weaken your immune system. Trying to find the article

Omicron escapes antibodies unfortunately.

Each reinfection seems slightly more serious then the previous infection, so we can forget long term immunity:

Good article.

Previously I've posted here some additional articles on covid weakening the immune system (also the explanation why children do better with covid than adults - they have more naive T cells):

SARS2 just spreads as a respiratory virus, but in the body it is a vascular virus attacking every organ with veins (i.e. literally every organ), therefore taking a much greater toll on immune system than more localized diseases.

T Cells: Warriors of SARS-CoV-2 Infection - PubMed

gr2_lrg.jpg

Immunological dysfunction persists for 8 months following initial mild-to-moderate SARS-CoV-2 infection | Nature Immunology

SARS2 is differentiating our naive T cells to fight the virus at a great rate.
This is good for the next infection, but if we get infected every few months with no mitigation because it's "mild", in 10 years we might end up with an old immune system, incapable of fighting new diseases (in this way SARS2 has some similarities with HIV, although it is not directly killing T cells like HIV).
Similarities with HIV:
A single-cell atlas reveals shared and distinct immune responses and metabolism during SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1 infections

Children are ok now, but in case of unmitigated continuous spread of variants they might end up with naive T cells depleted in their 20s.

(Now, after the above article on reinfections even the idea of memory T cells protecting against reinfection seems under question...)
