Highlighting COVID-19 racial disparities can reduce support for safety precautions among White U.S. residents - ScienceDirect

Study 1 provided initial support for our preregistered hypotheses. We found that White U.S. residents who perceived there to be greater racial disparities in COVID-19 were less fearful of COVID-19. In addition, an exploratory mediation analysis indicated that this reduced fear of COVID-19 may decrease support for safety precautions. Thus, these findings suggest that publicizing racial disparities in COVID-19 could possibly lead the public to be less supportive of safety measures that could limit the spread of COVID-19.

when Covid first dropped there were people saying black people can't get it.
i was like :dwillhuh: !!!
are you trying to kill black people?

Just got back from Aruba, what a mind fukk covid wise. The fading gov stickers and signs are your only indication that it ever existed. None of the locals wear masks. Apparently there's less than 100 cases on the whole island at this point. It was uncomfortable for the first couple days, being my first trip in 2 years, but the constant 10-40mph winds did give me some relief :ahh:

Only tourists wear masks at all for the most part, and aruba is mostly trash american and euro white people so even that was fairly rare. we stayed masked up in cabs and stores, but otherwise nah :steviej:

Me and my girl tested negative for the flight back so all good, and now im drunk on a monday morning rambling to yall depressed im back in jersey instead of there :heh:

It was like that in Tanzania, nobody and I mean nobody wore masks, shyt was refreshing.

Hell on the two flights to get there, passengers weren't wearing masks either. It's great to be around normal people living life.

Serbia was the same last week.

I kept wandering how many of them will be invalids in 5 or 10 years.

It was a tragedy.

Poor people died from COVID at twice the rate of wealthy Americans, study finds

The death rates in poorer counties climbed up to five times higher than in richer counties during the recent waves of the Delta and Omicron variants, the report found.

Researchers also looked at 300 counties with the highest death rates and found many had a higher percentage of people living in poverty and a higher percentage of people of color, Lynch said.

The report highlighted examples in six counties, including Hinds County in Mississippi, and includes an interactive dashboard.
