You're definitely right in that bats are the most likely original carriers of the disease, although they're hibernating around this time of the year, so there must have been an intermediate crossover to another species. Bats have always been known to carry virulent diseases e.g ebola. So that article you just posted is moot, since it would mean that this particular virus had to have evolved, before it was able to pass on to humans . Good try though
