Explain to me how my daughter can watch Sheriff Callie in one room, I watch the a game in another and my other daughter watch whatever the hell she wants.

Get a box for each TV.

My main TV has a Fire TV with xbmc loaded. I'm watching the pregame now using the ustvnow plugin. Flawless network TV. No need airplay from the NFL app like I usually do since all the playoffs are national.

My daughter is in the play room watching Princess and the Frog via a local media player (I have over 2,000 movies and over 100 tv series on my hard drive).

My bedroom has another local player but I'm about to get another Fire TV for that because that shyt is so piff. Then I'll put the media player from my bedroom in the living.

So by next week I should have:

1) Fire TV, which features xbmc, show box, and airplay capability (as well as Netflix, Prime, Hulu and all those subscriptions that are now obsolete :mjlol:) and a local media player with all the piff previously mentioned in my living room

2) Fire TV in the bedroom

3) Media player with all the kids' stuff in the play room

We watch whatever we want, whenever we want. And for free. You couldn't pay me to swap this setup for cable.

How well does Fire TV run xbmc? Do you think it makes building a dedicated HTPC obsolete? Right now i'm just running Roku 3/ChromeCast with plex on my computer to stream tv series/movies.

Edit: I just got the Roku 3 for xmas....thinking about taking it back for firetv

The Fire TV (Not the stick) runs it just fine, at this point I'd build a NAS box to store stuff on rather than a HTPC. The frontend stuff on Roku & FireTV are really nice, and the fact the Amazon can sideload Kodi makes it really dope.

No complaints, breh. I was about to get a roku til I found out I couldn't run xbmc.

It will run on the Fire stick but I like the box because it has more processing power and plus I have it connected via ethernet for increased speed.

I checked with the boys on reddit and they told me Fire TV was the best stand alone box for xbmc. So far, I haven't seen anything to dispute that. :yeshrug:

Just started really playing with the Xbox One's capabilities & found a few sites you can stream directly from the console & watch tv shows & movies in HD quality. I also discovered you can stream .mkv files through the console now. Read up on it & tested it last night & it worked very well.

I want to cut cable BAD, but I have 3 televisions always showing something diff. Cutting the cord is for people without kids.

this is my problem. I would love to cut that cord off, but I got kids and a wife who ain't tryin' to hear this.

my youngest daughter watches netflix exclusively, so she's good. for me, I'd just get another roku box and get baller streams and put the regular antennae on my tv and go with that. plus I already download a gang of tv shows just off the fact I dont like watching commercials either.

currently, we have netflix, amazon prime, and passwords for HBOGO and Showtime.

just noticed recently that comcast has cut off HBOGO access from PS3. I was :fire: when I saw that shyt. cuz it certainly still works on the roku box in my room.

I feel like I'm losing so bad because I pay for Direct TV and the biggest thing I use it for is to DVR Football games. I DVR mad shows, but I can easily download them shyts. It might be time to cut that cord. I just feel attached to broadcast TV like I'd miss out on something if it wasn't available to me.
