AD won several games by himself with LeBron out , but regardless dude is averaging 27 and 12 off 57% while playing elite defense. Dude is pretty much having a career year and was dominant prior to injury. He rushed back to help the team only for Bron to stat-pad to break the record and then conveniently sit it out while AD has to carry the load and blame against good teams.

What's the point of getting to the playoffs if you blow out your achilles on the way? Lakers don't even acknowledge that playoff appearance, it was a nobel gut-wrenching effort on Kobe's part but resulted in nothing for the team except a first-round sweep. If that happened to 34yo Kobe in his 16th season with no preexisting injury, then something bad is that much more likely to happen to 38yo Bron with a ton more mileage and already playing hurt. He's not trying to end his season in February, he's trying to have both himself and the team in an ideal place to make a run in April/May/June, and he knows if he's already shot by the time they get there then he's fukked.

As others have said, this is maybe a 50-50 game without Bron. So an injured Bron's presense is worth, what, 0.3 wins in this scenario? How is 0.3 wins at this point worth more than having a functional star player for the next 25 games?

Guys also had career years playing with him, Pau, Odom, Kwame, Bynum and he was a master of getting these bum role players looking good. Dwight played on like 5-6 teams after that and annoyed every team he was on. Even Steve Nash was done with him. Aldridge was a free agent in 2015 when he met with the Lakers, a year before Kobe retired.
