Russ hasn't really given them shyt tho, breh. It's all an illusion.. Overall, he still hurts more than he helps. I do think his playmaking can be a legitimate asset but you're not gonna win anything meaningful with a starting point guard that has the second worst TS% in the entire NBA and the single worst eFG%. We've seen teams stick their centers (Nurkic, Turner, Kornet,) on him during crunch time to clog the lane and completely neutralize the Lakers half-court offense. If they don't move him they're essentially punting on trading 47 million dollars for quality players because of a guy that could possibly give you 20-25 minutes a night of good playmaking and horrible shooting/scoring (and even that is a tossup, some nights he's just passing the ball to the other team). If by some miracle this team sneaks into the playoffs with Russ, defenses are going to be even more relentless in exploiting his flaws. The juice just isn't worth the squeeze.I see what you're trying to say, it's just not going to go over well on this site.
Beverly is great to have as a defensive guy, and a dude that will hit the occasional 3, and you turn Russ into Bojan which frees up Schroder as the go-to guard.
In reality, Beverly has almost always been a negative this entire season, and Russ has given us life off the bench, turning Bryant into a legit starting center.
We're in a Schrödinger's Cat situation, where if we lose Russ, we lose backup assists to bigs but gain shooting (which potentially ends up evening out, and not improving the roster) or we keep Russ, get no shooters and potentially end up with boneheaded plays that cost us valuable games, or worse, a game in the playoffs.
The best of both worlds is to get a guy like Bojan without losing Russ, and limiting Russ' opportunities to fukk us by potentially benching him in critical situations. Schroder has proven he should be the closing guard. He can shoot, get to the basket with ease and is a 90% free throw shooter, which is exactly what you need in close game situations. The Lakers are ALWAYS in close game situations.
