I disagree. Benny is clearly the star out of Griselda. Conway is grimy as hell but his shyt doesn’t resonate as much.
I never said Conway was the star though. I think we just missed each other on that one.

All I'm saying is that as an emcee, I now prefer Conway over more commercial beats than Benny. And in 2019 it was the opposite for me. So for me, the script flipped.

I've never once said Benny is not the star, and more marketable, and more appealing to a broader audience over more mainstream production.

I'd be crazy to argue that point. And you know Benny's one of my favorite emcees too. I definitely think he's the one with the crossover potential, but I wasn't really talking about that. I'm just saying that right now, if you asked me whether I'd rather hear Benny or Conway over a brand new Hit-Boy joint, I'd rather hear Conway rap on it. Just speaking for me though.

Speaking for Conway, I haven't really heard any dumbing down. If anything I think he's expanding the types of topics he's talking about.

What I hear when I hear him on these trap records from producers like Murda Beats on songs like KD or Anza is him just having fun. :yeshrug:

Like, Conway was doing trap joints in 2015. This is nothing new at all for him. There were like 3 or 4 trap joints on that very first Devil's Reject.

But here's 2.

And he was still rapping about police brutality on the same tape. This is basically the prequel to Front Lines.

And these two songs, 5:10 is where Con's verse starts on Trae Tha Truth's song.

Wow. I never heard this. Good looks on the time code too.

Daps/reps (as soon as I have rep free'd up to use.)

I want Conway to tap into this kind of content more often. Matter of fact more artists need to do that. I’m guessing they don’t do it regularly because people would rather hear the shoot em up bang bang music instead which is sad.

Couldn't agree more. I hadn't heard that joint, but I'd heard Front Lines, New Slaves, and The People. It's a catch 22 to say I'd love to hear more of that content. On one hand, it's cathartic, but on the other hand, if we're hearing music, then it means the problem isn't getting better.

Here's a preview of a happier Conway content song, produced by 9th Wonder

I feel you and I would love to get a Conway album with Hit-Boy production just like I want Daringer/Alchemist producing everything on Tana Talk 4.

I gotta agree. That OBI is fire. I also lucked out on those DeRap drops, and I'm kind of not wanting to push my luck. I still might go for the straight black version of La Maquina.

Edit: @Monoblock saw your post after. Yeah, I'm going for it. I've been able to get a lot of drops the past 6 months since I started using the Apple Pay express checkout feature on the iPhone. it's super fast. I don't know if I'll go for the OBI though. I don't know if I wanna aim high and not get anything. I just want the music, so I may just gun for the most basic version of the vinyl.

My thinking on the GOAT drop was everyone was gonna crazy & rush straight for the colour variants so It was a safe bet to just go for standard black, like you I just want the music so I’m not particularly fussed about owning diff colour variants or Obi’s. I’m thinking I’ll keep the same strategy for La Maquina too

Almost all the vinyl I have is straight black vinyl man. I don't know. I like the idea of some of the colors. There's definitely some dope looking stuff. But I've also heard the black sounds better, lasts longer, and since vinyl is so hypebeasty these days, it just seems like a much safer bet to go for the black.
:manny:
I saw they're shipping the Food 1-3 vinyls this week. I've never had a vinyl with inserts before. Does that mean I can just swap out the cover I want to use, and it doesn't come with just one cover?
