Everyone (Black) I know that's been to DF has loved it. It's not like you're going to Sinaloa or trying to meet El Chapo.

The real danger is the water.

My research so far

Neighborhoods - Condesa or Roma
Attractions in Mexico City - The museums are supposed to be Paris level in terms of having cool stuff to look at. Day trips to the
Shopping - Real or Real Good Fakes - they should have it.
The Food - You already know.
The DOD Parade - It doesn't look hype like a Mardi Gras, but it should be something cool.

Night Life - ? Yo no se. I'm still looking stuff up.
Mujeres - Yo habla espanol? No?
You’ll see the occasional Afro Mexican shorty strolling around down there, you’ll know instantly cuz they’ll be holdin ass :wow:

The main difference is just in RULE OF LAW. You can't really trust the basic institutions that we basically trust in the US. Like it would be not very likely to have a 4 hour shootout in Beverly Hills, or North Shore Chicago, but in Mexico? It could happen.

Like those 4 in Matamoros, got snatched off the street like nothing. and only made it back, because the group gave them back.

There's been attempts to kill the chief of police in Mexico City, like intense gun battles with dozens of gunmen. Broad daylight, automatic weapons, for an hour.
yeah that part I know from 2 trips to tiajuana...the mental security of american laws just leaves your brain...it can go down

It’s my favorite big city in the Americas. Food is banging, subway system makes it easy to get around, lots to do and see as far as architecture, nightlife, catch a soccer game if you down there at the right time those are lit.

Speak on the nightlife. I haven't seen much on it.

honestly not pretending to be billy badass in a foreign country with an american passport is probably a better strategy then testing locals' gangsta for clout :hubie:

Appreciate you Ed. Just quoting this to get your attention. I've thought about it a bit more and I would definitely recommend Oaxaca over CDMX for Dia.

I was just perusing my old photos of Mexico and a few things standout for your trip. Other than the authenticity of the celebration the rufino tamayo museum is one of my favorite in Mexico.

Monte Alban is a better historical site to visit than tenochtitlan. Mazunte is a solid beach trip and the food is going to be more specialized in this region.

ADO can run you up to Puebla which is a great city or if you are feeling very adventurous you can head up to San Cristobal de las casas in the mountains or further east to Palenque, best ruin, in Mexico as well. Have fun

Puebla was the highlight of my trip…bout a 2 hour drive from CDMX, met this BAD Afro Mexican shorty out there :noah:

Only regret is not spending a extra day or two in Puebla but I was short on time

Off topic:

I went on a cruise with my family when I was 16. One of the stops was Cozumel, Mexico. I was excited to get an authentic taco. There was a little stand at one of the tourist sites. My grandmother said it would be a bad idea to eat there. I’m glad I listened.

That’s my only experience with Mexico.

if youre from a big city in the U.S. you can handle most major cities of the world.

same common sense rules apply.

I know one cat that moved down there after a divorce and was eating lovely...
he showed me some photos of the girls he was dating :wow:

the other side of that is my ex had a friend go down there for a honeymoon...
...boyfriend (maybe it was the girl) caught a stray bullet to the dome and died

years ago I spent a month in southern Mexico...
had a ball.
people were really nice.

was sitting on the beach and a cat asked me if I smoked....
I gave him a couple dollars and he came back with a grocery bag of weed.

looked like he chopped that shyt off a plant growing outside...
we were smoking joints nonstop till we left.

ended up leaving the rest for the staff

If you haven't visited mexico city, or have CLOSE SECOND HAND ACCOUNTS, don't drop links about decapitations or kidnappings.

I'm considering a trip to Mexico for Dia De Los Muertos for my birthday, and am wondering if this is a good or bad idea based on current Mexico City situations, the holiday itself, etc. If I were to rate my spanish i'd say its like a 3/10. Enough to know if i'm in trouble and order food.

Any advice [locations, do's / don'ts], or is this a trip to reconsider?

1. Stay in Polanco, Roma, Condessa, or Centro colonias like the rest of the gringos. Unless you paid for some type of exclusive car service, Ask the people at the hotel the best way to get from point A to B.

2. Carry an Xtra 50 to 100 dollars on you juuusst in case the police try and hustle you.

3. Register with the US Embassy. Anything could happen (volcano, earthquake, el chapito...)

4. Under no circumstances chase or follow vagina into the hillside favelas or hoods.

5. At least get some type of translation app on your phone if your Spanish is limited. Most people in the gentrified areas speak some English, but don't take that chance.

6. Call your phone carrier just to double check and confirm your phone / plan will work there. It should but shyt changes.

7. Watch your budget. The peso v dollar is stronger than previous years.

Finally, the DOD is normally a family at the graveyard thing (like a block party if u will). However CDMX does have a parade and some activities for the touristas etc. Either find a family that turns up for it or goto Oaxaca and celebrate it there.

Have fun and be safe.
