He's a Libra and sensitive about his shyt.

I don't blame him - we don't like drama.

It's just Twitter. It's many other ways to connect to his base and people.

Receipts. Great article, but Race Matters is a great book that is studied. TaNaheisi Coates essay cannot compare to that because it is just that, an article.

Why do we have to get into this pissing contest about who has done more for black folks? Is that not perpetuating the same shyt that caused all of this?
Coates is the reason mainstream culture even considers reparations as a talking point right now.

Before that SINGLE article, no one took the idea seriously or even thought it was worth debating in public

Its the first time in my life time I've seen that issue come up outside of barbershop talk and black circles.

Coates made that argument relevant for the modern era.

I'm not a fan of West. I was just simply asking how would the white intelligentsia take to Coates advocating violence as a solution to disrupting the system?

If white supremacy is so egregious (which is what Coates argues), egregious measures should be taken to disrupt it. And he may argue this, but I'm not familiar with the breadth of his work, which is what I was asking. Wasn't making an argument for one or the other.
I've read Coates when he used to argue back and forth with people in the comment section of his articles in The Atlantic YEARS ago.

Some of yall started reading this dude last week.

Do yourself a favor and go back and read.

Cornell West clearly hasn't read Coates and it seems you all haven't:

Ta-Nehisi Coates

what is West mad about, that Coates had some decent things to say about Obama and his criticism was based more on nuance and that TNC focuses on Black Americans and isn't on his kumbuyuma with all the foreign "oppressed non Black Brown people" of the world or something?
Thats the same shyt Yvette Carnell called him out for and so did Rod from TBGWT

I love you and adore Coates - but nah.

He reignited the conversation - but nothing came of it. NOTHING. No plan, no bill leverage. Nothing.
Its not his job.

This is what I'm talking about.

We have literally like 5 black authors that are universally respected across the board.

Then yall want Coates to do the plumbing, gardening, laundry, and be an auto mechanic.

That shyt is stupid.

Coates merely made his CASE for reparations. Its the community's responsibility to carry that forward. i.e. West, since he wants to claim to be such an activist.

What type of sense does it make for the author to ALSO be a fukking congressional lobbyist?

Black people have been screwed by the work of tens of thousands of white supremacists working daily to find ways to box them in...then you want SINGULAR COATES to fix it all.

I dont see you asking for other Op-Ed writers to ALSO come up with policy solutions and create policy.

Nobody takes reparations seriously as a talking point. :mjlol:
Before Coates wrote that article, there was NO mainstream discussion about reparations

NONE.

I haven't seen people even DISCUSS the idea or even debate it that much IN. MY. LIFE.

You're talking to someone who grew up listening to Democracy Now when Cornel West was on there regularly and you NEVER heard him remotely focus on a black American issue that much.

I agree. It isn't and Coates has made it very clear he's not an activist. And I applaud that.

But, the point is -- his piece ignited the conversation - but nothing came of it -- it's not his fault or job -- but it didn't do anything for Black America but open wounds. It did lead me to research my family tree to make sure I know who owns mine. But, still... the bill hasn't been passed.

Hopefully we can move forward.

I didn't ask Coates to create or come-up with policies -- I merely stated that the piece reignited a conversation - that so far had led to nothing.

I just saw the Yvette video - I am not the biggest Yvette fan - but she is right - you have to do more than present what they already know.

Thats just the thing.

MANY people did not KNOW these things as concretely or as concisely as Coates laid out.

nikkas want inspiration and Coates literally says "yo go to church for that. I'm not here to inspire you. Im here to spit the truth"
