Dogbites.org is trash

You should link actual research by professionals. Most dogs in these attacks are labeled pits when they're are mutts or mixes. I'm all for holding irresponsible people accountable but let's use facts to justify our cases. Here let me help you:

a paper published in The Veterinary Journal, researchers say animal shelter staff frequently mislabel non-pit-bull dogs as pit bulls.

“Pit bull” is not a breed but a type that describes several breeds. The American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, and American pit bull terrier are all pit bulls. These dogs have been maligned as violent and aggressive by nature—a reputation they have not earned. But news reports disproportionately report the culprits of dog attacks as pit bulls, even when, as scientists note, it’s unlikely that most of them are. As the researchers cite, about 46 percent of American dogs are mutts, but 90 percent of dogs named by the media in attack stories were labeled with a single breed or type (often pit bull). The numbers just don’t add up, they say.
DNA Tests Show Many Shelter Dogs Are Mislabeled as Pit Bulls

Position Statement on Pit Bulls

No. The first thing I did when I was consulting this book is reach out to the experts in the animal sciences to talk about what’s going on with these incidents and how best to prevent them. Fatalities are incredibly rare. In the U.S., we have 320 million people and between 77 and 83 million dogs. So your chance of being killed by any type of dog in the U.S. in any given year is one in 10 million.

People who have studied these cases, like Jeffrey Sacks at the CDC, have shown that when it comes to fatalities caused by pit bulls, the breed identifications are often not accurate. The title “pit bull” has expanded so dramatically over the years that people are lumping any dog with a large head and short coat into that category rather than separating out each of the pit bull breeds.

The article above really shows the positives and negatives of our society. Dog should've been killed and the owner sued

I wasn't even singling out pitbulls. I just posted links to stories of any dog attacks. It was for anyone that thinks we're just hating dogs for zero reason.

I love animals. Dogs especially. Have two pitbulls and I have no problem with what breh did. He did what he shouldve done. He did what I would expect someone to do if my dogs got off the leash. Thats why its so important to train dogs especially off-leash control. Even though I know the bigger dog wouldnt bite someone despite running at them, I fully expect her to be put down if who she runs at has a gun. And because the younger pit is much more rambunctious and harder to control, I wouldnt be surprised if she bit someone, even playfully if she breaks off the leash. This is the responsibility dog owners should have and how serious they should take it. Treat it as a life or death situation, for either the dog, someone else's dog or a person if they were to be loose...and train/board your dog so that wouldnt happen. If you dont, you are just asking for your dog to get shot, hit by a car or to hurt someone. Even if they wouldnt do anything wrong, people are wary and will be over zealous to you with their actions, but preservative of their well being to them.

This is the case with ALL pitbull statistics, even the so-called "official" ones. They lump several different breeds and all medium, smooth coat terrier mutts as Pitbulls in attacks. :francis:

Where It’s Not Safe
Theres a difference between temperament and recorded dog bite incidents. I hope ur smart enough to know the difference.

Im aware Pitbulls naturally have a human friendly temperament & are dog aggressive hence why they are fighting dogs. That doesnt take away the fact that they are disproportionately represented in bite stats compared to every other breed.

2018 dog bite fatality statistics
2018 analysis and 14-year period summary
  • 36 U.S. dog bite-related fatalities occurred in 2018. Despite being regulated in Military Housing areas and over 900 U.S. cities, pit bulls contributed to 72% (26) of these deaths. Pit bulls make up about 7% of the total U.S. dog population.
  • During the 14-year period of 2005 to 2018, canines killed 471 Americans. Two dog breeds, pit bulls (311) and rottweilers (47), contributed to 76% (358) of these deaths. 33 different dog breeds contributed to the remaining fatal dog maulings.
  • In the year of 2018, the combination of pit bulls (26), rottweilers (2) and mastiff-type guard dogs and war dogs (4) -- the types used to create "baiting" bull breeds and fighting breeds -- accounted for 89% (32) of all dog bite-related fatalities.
  • Mixed-breeds had the second highest death rate in 2018, inflicting 3 deaths, followed by rottweilers, mastiff/bullmastiffs and Dogo argentinos, each with 2 deaths. 9 different dog breeds contributed to 36 deaths, including 1 wolf-dog hybrid.
You obviously dont know what ur talking about breh. Just let it go.
