That hp is fine, it's better than the celeron cpu in that dell. The HP Laptop you posted has a quad core (4 cores) for better multitasking and the gpu is vastly superior. In this price range all laptops are made with plastic.

From me n my boys experience, STAY AWAY FROM HP.

My cuzzo literally bought 2 HP's and a total of around 4 adapters/plugs in a 2/3 year span.

Next on the list for shytty quality is Dell.

We both bought Sony's around the same time and they're much better (but they are more expensive and the amount of bloatware on it is ridiculous)

He's moved on to an Macbook now and I'm on my second Sony, simply because my moms wanted a laptop n I was feeling like an upgrade.

For what you're looking to do though (school and internet) you're budget is about right, but the way computers are advancing this days, a 4GB/500GB laptop with those HP specs is basically out of date the day you buy it.
