Sex and Violence didn't work for KRS. It's literally the album that he says he forgets he made. And like I said, nothing he dropped during Cube's run can see Amerikkka's Most Wanted or Death Certificate.

You're talking about your preference in emceeing. I'm talking about how impactful and classic these albums were when they dropped in real-time. Common is my dude, but he doesn't have anything in his catalogue that can touch Cube's best work. He also never reached the heights that Cube did either. It's like Chuck D said back then, "America and these other rappers are gonna have a hard time dealing with Ice Cube. He's the best right now and he ain't going nowhere". No one back then had the game in a chokehold the way Cube did. We all knew that back then.

That's about as high quality as it gets. When I say "impact", I'm talking about how those albums were everywhere! He was literally being played by every kind of Hip Hop fan. You're talking about isolated moments. I'm talking about what was going on when Cube dropped those albums and changed the whole game. To this day, there are very few albums better than Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Kill at Will, and Death Certificate.

KRS is in my Top 2 of all-time. But just because he's one of my favorites ever, I'm not gonna front like Cube wasn't unstoppable during his run. KRS never got to that level. Common never got to that level. Cube did. And if you were around back then, you know he was THAT dude! I'm not talking about who did what in their battles and all that. That's a different talk. I'm talking about how dude dropped untouchable classic albums that shook the whole game up. That's a very different level of greatness that KRS and Common didn't get to during Cube's run.

Cube was a global phenomenon without making poppy rap records.

Dude was writing and making hardcore street sh*t while in NWA, then went solo and did the same thing, with more of a political black-power edge, and still ran the game. Even the government went after him. Congress tried to sign legislation to get his records pulled from the shelves because they said he was a "menace". Literally no other MC has been able to make those kinds of records, and be at the top for as long as he was, with undeniable classic albums back to back to back to back. It never happened before Cube, and didn't after him either.

Death Certificate is such a goated album, like 95% of it is still 100% applicable till this day.

If you also take into account what Cube did in writing for Eazy-E and NWA in those days.

There really is no equivalent to early Cube.

To be honest, this question is kinda loaded. Cube was the GOAT of GOATs of his era, even if that era kinda glossed over. Common was a Great of Greats. But he still great and outside of Electric Circus (maybe) never stopped being a great of greats.

1990-1993 Cube, IMO, the "missing link". He was legit GOAT between the eras of Rakim and Nas, but publications and thus the public seem to gloss over it.

hell, they almost treat 1990-1993 like it don't exist.

and listened to Common's Resurrection album through some headphones and it changed my perception of music permanently, like someone hit a light switch.

Like before that point, I was only hearing music, but I wasn't listening.

I went back and listened to everything I had ever heard. was buying like 600 dollars worth of CDs at a time. Now I truly love this shyt.

And I love hip hop/rap because it's a collage of all the musical genres that I love.
