I understand what he meant he was probably missing the Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, De La Soul types cuz there was a lot of random gangsta rappers getting on

it’s basically what we see today, the ignorant rappers overshadow everyone else

We hear about 6ix9ine and City Girls an them dudes more than a Saba, Mick Jenkins, Noname, Rhapsody and those types

Only difference is 6ix9ine and City Girls ain’t making classic like Wu and Snoop, etc

Also what's crazy....literally any record you pick from 25+ years ago complaining about the state of hip-hop....from "Stakes Is High" to "I Used To Love Her" to "Crossover"....how were they wrong, given how things eventually turned out?:jbhmm:

People act like a song talking about the decline of hip-hop in 1996 is only talking about 1996. I don't get it.

Fred.
Exactly. By '97 Puff Daddy and Master P were the biggest things in hip hop and things have been shaky ever since. All the complaints were eventually proven correct

there have been rumors forever. Industry nigfas are fake all they care about is appearances. Just like they were doing songs with R.Kelly even though everybody knew he was fukking teenage girls.

LOL...My dude. You just exposed yourself. This is the post u made in the OP "used to love her? mad that we fukked her p*ssy whipped bytch with no common sense" that was well deserved

You open ya thread up giving Cube all these props yet totally ignored the fact that Cube was one of the main headliners in that Zulu 40th Anniversary.
U giving Cube props one minute then destroying it the next by saying he's a fake industry nikka who only cares about appearances.

You can give someone props for one action and criticize another action, it's called nuance. Common is in my top 10 and I still criticize him.

But how you stressing what Cube said to Common whose beef lasted for like one year while ignoring over 2 decades of Cube been aligned with Zulu? Cube got with Zulu when beefing with NWA..And you never even said shyt about Cubes long affiliation with Zulu.....2 decades of him being fake and keeping bottymon secretes like u claimed is way worse and out weighs anything he woulda said aimed at Common in that one year.

Thats why u destroyed your own argument...At this point who gives a shyt what Cube says about Common...the real question becomes why was Cube being fake for over 2 decades and hiding bottymon secrets about Bambatta like u claimed? That would be more important since you brought all that stuff up.

yea the 90s was a decade of rapid change in rap music, as corporate america slowly but surely took over the artform..

gangsta rap problem is it became a caricature of itself, like NWA 2nd album

cuz there's a fine line between social commentary and glorifying the violence/crack dealing, not spittin anything with substance

to add to this post...

rakim on the 18th letter was talking bout bringing the rhyme skills back, saying he was kinda glad he ain't come out in the mid 90s..

recently on espn they asked him what lyrics best represented him as an emcee..

he said the first 8 bars from the 18th letter, and u can kinda relate his comments with what others like grandmaster caz and melle mel said too

cuz the golden age in the late 80s/early 90s was the creative peak of hip-hop

so many different styles without one trying to dominate or monopolize the others, it was a healthy balance..
