Young cop(s) messes up during routine patrol, cop gets a demotion but somehow ends up on a serious case anyway. Cop messes up again and gets fired/suspended, for some reason he continues to work on the case and saves the day.
This was Jesse Plemons' entire cyclical character arc in Friday Night Lights.
