It’s crazy I was just talking about this. I might start a thread and poll on this. I actually think black people shouldn’t fill out the census. If you think about it, the census is what has been used historically to enact some of the most racist policies. Banks use census data to redline communities where black people live so they won’t approve loans or approve predatory loans in that area. Car insurance companies charge black people for higher insurance by using census data. The political system uses census data to gerrymander, rearranging predominately black voting districts to be majority white. Census data is used in zoning laws to decide where to approve certain businesses such as 100 liquor stores on the black side of town (despite the already high concentration) and Whole Foods on the white side. Census data was used during the construction of the highway infrastructure so that the highways would intersect black communities forcing the residents to be displaced and black home prices to drop. They use census data to control and manipúlate our population numbers. I could go on and on. Black people in America are basically in a never ending race war so I look at it like during a war, you wouldn’t want the enemy knowing your location and whereabouts.
My question would be when has filling out the census ever benefited black people?
What people choose to do with the data isn't something we can control. Many use it for the right reasons, moreso than
reasons. That's never going anyway, no matter how you slice it. But not doing the census definitely hurts more than helps because this fed money does need to get to our communities and this is how it gets done. You lose that and we get even less. That is 100% fact. Talk to some politicians and council people and they will tell you that.
You can fight a lot of
shyt in our communities as well. A gas station/liquor store was trying to setup shop at the entrance of a predominantly black neighborhood down the street from me that is a fukking golf course property. The residents got that shyt cancelled like a mufukka because they weren't having it. Same for where I Live when some years back, the city gave a license for some cac to setup a gun shop at the shopping center in front of our neighborhood. We got that shyt
with the quickness after fighting it.
The people you vote in office combined with this data can use it for what it's meant to be used for.
