I feel like the older I get, the less I like Peter Parker.
It's one thing when life just randomly shyts on him. It's another when this grown ass man is just constantly self-sabotaging and blaming everyone else for his problems.
Maybe that's why people prefer he just be a kid. It's less pathetic that way.

Deadpool. I liked him in the 90s when he was a villain that cracked some jokes but since the late 2000s to the present he's unbearable. 
Fantastic Four. Outside of the Byrne run in the early 80s, they're boring as hell.

I can understand the current Kitty not having fans because she doesn't have a command of a likable personality.
When she was a teen trying to find her footing as a major X-Men she had the adults and New Mutants to play off of. Shining in Excalibur - one of my favorite series - she actually had to be a person. A girl living in turbulent times, using h2h combat, exercising her technological capabilities and being a good friend.
Even in Excalibur, I always thought that Captain Britain was lame. He was written well but was boring.
Now she is a quipping machine like most of Marvel characters. Her personality didn't have a natural place for growth from writers, that's how it goes though.

writers have put him into a perpetual fukking hole. hes just below super man when it comes to leaving him at the status quo. "things about to change? cant have that, thats not the peter i grew up with" so then they fukk his life up and make him crawl back to where he was before. i dont know why they couldnt leave him as a fukking teacher. but there you go

At least with Superman, the status quo isn't based on that nikka being perpetually miserable. Some writers take him in that direction, but you also get a lot of Superman being a well adjusted person who deals with his shyt.
Peter is basically a man-child who will always inevitably have to suffer. It's not Daredevil-level where it's like you wonder if this guy would be better off dead, but it's just annoying because like you said, Peter is just stuck in a hole. He never moves forward. He can't get married. He can't hold a job. He can't have kids. He can't actually use any of his talent or connections to build a decent life for himself for long. Being a teacher was the best compromise because he let him have a steady gig that made sense for his character while also presenting him with real problems, and they even took that away.
Spider-Man's life is supposed to be hard, but it ain't about Peter's life being hard at this point. This man is just a fukking loser.
I will absolutely cop to being an Aquaman fan, but I don't get Namor fans at all. Any time I ask why people like him, it's either because he's a dikk or he's "not Aquaman."

Cyke & Grayson have the best natural progression from comicbook characters EVER. From their initial creation, to where they are now, you can see the growth, and the reasons why. Of course since Secret Wars, he's been shytty....and the reason he killed Xavier was trash.
