As far as comparing #s, one had a cast of unproven Chris Pratt, non box office draw Batista, talking tree Vin Diesel who only had one line, animated racc00n Bradley Cooper, and B list Zoe Saldania playing characters only hardcore comic fans knew...

The other had one of the masters of summer Blockbusters in Will Smith, a heavily hyped joker with Leto, and one of the new Hollywood actresses getting heavy hype in Robbie.....


And although the Suicide Squad might not be a group the average person had heard of, the characters were at least known to the general public...

I'm an outsider in these stan wars, but you'd think SS would have a bigger lead on GOTG...:yeshrug:

will smith hasn't had a great movie at the box office in years... His star has fizzled

leto hasn't had a movie gross over 100m ever (until Ss)

you might have a point about Margot, buy she's only been in like a handful of movies

That's thing with WB they cast big names too often and it shows. Marvel tries to cast people who will keep playing that role and that's why their movies flow well

That movie was marketed as an event and was responsible for the rebirth of 3d films...

As far as her being the star, I don't even remember the name of her co star and he had way more screen time than Zoe...

And bruh Stone Cold is the biggest name ever in wrestling and he isn't a box office draw. Vin Diesel played a fukking tree bruh who only repeated one line and again Cooper was an animated racc00n who was a super hero...

Again I'm not on either side, and I fukk with Batman vs Superman heavy...

Why are we comparing these 2 movies?

SS had a bigger budget, and more known characters (The Joker, Batman) and more accomplished actors (Will Smith, Jerod Leto).

A lot of people thought Guardians would be Marvel's first full fledged flopped and there were no initial plans for a sequel... But since we talking number let me drop some.

SS was shown in 175 more theaters opening weekend.. so it was supposed to make more.
But in week two while Guardians had a 55.3% drop SS had a 67% drop and only made about 5 million more than Guardians even though it was shown in more theaters.
And because of the positive response Guardians got in its first week, it actually got added to more locations in week two.
