Wrd, its easier said than done. When your piss poor, and have nothing to lose, you can move with little repercussions.

When you're out of school, even with a little debt, and bills coming your way. It isnt like you can take a pause from earning income. Most people are worried about their credit score, since even the smallest hiccups will effect you in the near term.

So you're out of school, with no job, having to pay bills and loans. Unless you can get of of that hole quick, you might end up being stuck. Moving around isnt an option for a lot of people.

This one mutual friend I know runs a hospital (or maybe it was nursing home) said right out of his mouth he doesn't care about "qualifications" as much as he does about the person knowing one of the employees. By his logic, he believes he gets two hard workers for the price of one.

The person who recommended the hire is under pressure to make sure his/her friend doesn't make them look bad.

The person who got hired off a recommendation doesn't want to make their friend look bad either. Which means those two can be supervised less and you have something like a self-sustaining system.

Dude has turned down some great applicants from prestigious schools, but has had :obama: results thus far. However, I wonder if he were to drop that mentality and hire those high achieving students if he'd be in a much better place as a whole. I doubt he'll find out though because he seems close-minded to that idea.
That's a killer for minorities, since most white folks don't have friends of another race.

Plus, it homogenizes the office since friends tend to have the same qualities and flaws. That's not always beneficial for the company.

I completely agree.

But convincing a rich person (who doesn't even have a college degree) otherwise, is a monumental task.

Who you know > what you know. :wow:
basically, you can be a bumbling idiot, if you know some one with clout you can get a job, and possibly keep it. nepotism and cronyism are in EVERY field.

Now friends keeping saying shyt like "get a degree in somethings that matters like STEM" everyone is not built for that shyt, u need a certain kind of aptitude. Trade schools should get more run. :manny:

There's a reason why a white felon has a better chance at getting hired than a black person with no criminal record :shaq2:

Stop majoring in bullshyt degrees.

even that depends though, many good degrees start you off in really shytty entry level joints and even after that you are paying back loans so it doesn't make alot of difference in the onset. As someone mentioned you have degrees like Education where you can make really nice money right out the gate but there is very little or no room for upward mobility. So is make a lil money now and struggle till you get promoted, or make a moderate amount of bread and never make more than that. :manny:

Yeah, the number of family & friends connections at my company is insane... and that passes thru the generations too (uncle hiring nephew, etc).

My white friend in college said like a month or 2 before graduation his father gave him like 3 numbers said call any one of these tell them your my son and your golden. Like a week later a dude calls him in for a interview(which you KNOW Was bullshyt :russ:) and instantly starts off in a company making like 70 K at 22.

A young colleague got that same shyt 4 years ago, despite a virtual hiring freeze during the recession. His dad served with my boss in the mili.
My other colleagues weren't even mad (they probably got sweet deals like that in the past too)

you know they did. this is why white people can go to college and party like crazy and give no fukks, while minorities gotta be in them books to even get looked at, just to get passed up, for some white dude who's gramps sold liquor wit some other old cac during prohibition.
