But at least pre BCS the bowls mattered. The Rose Bowl matched was still dope. It was more about tradition. And there wasn't nearly as much media coverage.
True but now we get 10 playoff games plus the Natty. And those 10 playoff games will matter a lot more than the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl ever did

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
fukk the BCS, fukk the bowls, the playoffs is where it's at. Every other level of football has playoffs. It's well overdue.

I do hate the consolidation of conferences though.
They consolidated to ensure, their conferences, get the most automatic bids. The SEC and Big 10 virtually run the NCAA.

I'll disagree just for the fact that a mid-major conference champion is guaranteed to have a spot in the playoffs every year now. Even the old format was flawed when we saw teams like Cincinnati and UCF having to put together multiple undefeated regular seasons just to get a consideration to even be in a major bowl.

edit, can't forget the Hawaii, Utah, and Boise St eras in the BCS days

We’ll see, but I doubt guys are gonna skip playoff games

100% will never happen, all 12 teams will be competing for a National Championship, no game will be meaningless, it would be an extremely bad look on the player if he sat out.

People say they want parity and opportunity but when they get it they complain.

Like 40 teams are alive for a playoff spot right now, I thought this is what people wanted?

I thought people were tired of seeing Bama, UGA, Ohio State, and Clemson every year :jbhmm:

This playoff shyt is gonna be wack. Then they forcin too many teams in there. Playoffs shoulda been expanded to 6 teams, 8 at the most. 12 is too much
I agree.

4 team playoff wasn't working so I don't mind an expansion ( would've preferred reducing it back to 2 but if we're gonna keep this "playoff" might as well make it work).

I personally like 8, but at most 10 I think should be the cutoff.

Everyone always talks about the "top 10" teams as a badge of honor for teams. That should be the cut off. No reason why 9-3 teams ranked 15 should have any reason to complain about being left out, but that's the bull shyt we're about to see :snoop:

It was a "bad look" for players to "opt out" of bowl games. Won't happen this year because the old system is still entrenched.

But when some star, like say the dude at Boise, for a G5 that has no shot looks at his situation and realizes that his team has not realistic shot and can not play and get drafted high, these dudes will make business decisions.

I would not be surprised if it happens sometime in the next 3-5 years.

Wrong year to complain about a 12-team playoff. We've seen teams like Vandy defeat Alabama... and it wasn't a fluke. They whipped their defense ass.

Parity has arrived in college football this season and it's due to the transfer portal and NIL.

Who cares what teams play in what conference? I know it's not "traditional" but this season has been fantastic.

Maybe technically.

But realistically a 9-3 team vs a G5 in the first round of the playoffs doesn't matter because anyone with a brain would know that neither team is winning shyt.

There's more parity now than before, but this isn't the NFL where even the worst team is stocked with NFL talent.

Sure an upset is bound to happen every now and then, but no smaller lower tier programs have enough talent to run a gauntlet to beat top 5-10 type teams week after week if they get hot like it sometimes happens in the pros.
