Wouldn't the replacement be named right away by Newsom? Thought that was the case when Harris became VP and her Senate seat had to be filled. Think the only hold up would be which Dem takes her spot, and even then, that wouldn't be something that could be held up.

I think Dems need Republican support to allow her to be replaced on her Committees.

They don't need Repub support to get her replacement, the Governor of California should be able to do that unilaterally.

The replacement procedures for US Senate are set by the states, not the Federal govt.
