The War to End Distraction

Brehs, at some point, being productive has felt like that missing piece for many of us. I know because, it's always been a constant struggle within myself as well. We are in this thread because the idea of dedicating ourselves to being driven and getting things accomplished makes our ears point up like wolves ready to pounce on prey.

The challenging thing is, even with the acknowledgment that "just get it done" is clearly understood by us, more times than not, as we settle into ready position, anxious to pounce on the task or goal, something seemingly uncontrollable seems to retract our claws, hide our teeth and we hide back into the bush. We lose motivation, drive and fail to do what we set to accomplish.

It's disheartening when many people truly don't understand you and label you lazy or a bum and claim you aren't serious about your life even though, you genuinely want to be accomplished and productive. You start to believe what they say, "I'm just a lazy bum."

You're not.

This is an attempt to drown out that negativity and journey w/ Coli brehs who are willing to fight with you to help us all become our better selves.

Here, in this thread, we acknowledge this war between productivity & distraction and this is YOUR unit - We are going to try to fight this war together. We are Charlie Company - Coli Unit. Your brother right next to you is going to dap you, rep you and provide support in every way to let you know you can do this.

We all have the ability to be the most productive version of ourselves.

"Guided by the Marshmallow findings, we figured that to effectively resist a hot temptation (whether to eat the marshmallow now or cave in to any other temptation), the inhibitory No! response had to replace the hot Go! response - and it had to do this quickly and automatically, like a reflex."
- The Marshmallow Test: mastering Self-Control

Everyone welcome - even Coli lurkers, just sign up, sign in and join the fight.

:salute:

Literaly if you read up on dealing with that your life will change imo.

For shyt and giggles

Charlie Company - Coli Unit

As the Coli breh lay in there, his eyes glossed over and the bleeding was no longer a concern. Ironically, he felt a moment of silence some how - artillery fire of distraction damn near blew out his eardrum, machine gun fire from the Instagram explore page guerrilla units faded from his view, and the flanking enemy unit of useless coli troll thread that shot a 9mm round into his leg just melted into the background flames.

He was alone. It wasn't a feeling of peace; it was a perversion of it.

Today's battle was supposed to end with a victory for productivity but the Coli breh could see the Facebook app, eyes blood shot and mouth frothly like a rabid dog, rushing towards him ready to deal the mercy blow.

Bang.

A shot rang off through the air, somehow louder than the explosions. Louder than the screams and yells. Loud enough to snap the coli breh out of his stupor.

The precision on the shot was masterful as the down soldier witnessed a 5.56 caliber round rip right through the right cheek of that dirty Facebook app and explode the back skull of him with so much pressure that his helmet flew off.

The body dropped still clutching it's weapon, eyes open but lifeless.

From the shadows, a blooded black hand reached out and picked up the coli breh. "What unit are you from, soldier?!" yelled this savior over the chaotic melody of war.

The endless barrage of battle rendered him confused. "I...I... I don't know", was the only reply that the shell shocked coli breh could muster.

This unnamed soldier thrusted a weapon in the coli brehs hand and pointed towards Productivity Beach and only had to say one more thing,

"Well, you've got a to do list in your hands and a whole new unit of brothers" said the unnamed soldier, "you're Charlie Company, Coli Unit now".

This war was about to take a new turn.
:wow:

At this early stage - January 16, 2018 - a day after Martin Luther King Day - we are going to establish our first set of by laws & culture:

  • The words "lazy, bum, loser" will not be used to describe yourself. You are none of those things. You just need the right mix of help, support, schedule, medication(if prescribed) in order to get you to the level of productivity you need to feel accomplished.
  • We all have to understand and accept that there will be struggles; there will be regression. For every couple of steps progress, there will be days, weeks or months where you will take steps back. Sometimes more steps back than forward but this is a marathon; a war that will be a long term process that well ebb and flow towards progress.
  • Our major weapon will be To-Do Lists. This is the real game changer. There will be no shaming if you don't. There will be no shaming if you started doing them and stopped. There won't be shaming. But I promise you, if we support each other and, at the least, get our To Do Lists done daily, I promise it'll hit un-productivity like a .50 cal round.
  • Any books, quotes, articles related to staying productive are welcome.
  • Discussion about the struggles, personal accounts, and successes are encouraged.

@Wanya Morris this is the test run breh. This evening we will help each other set up our to do list. :salute:

@Wanya Morris Understand that it is hard to get into the habit of making a to do list/schedule but it'll pay serious dividends.

Today, this is my to do list - Redacted for privacy

  • Organize office
  • Email Arbitrator about Hearing Decision
  • Email opposing attorney about start of new trial
  • Email witness **** about prep
  • Check if any other decisions are uploaded
  • Email Dr. ****
  • Look up bunk beds for kids
  • Figure out Verizon Fios Costs

None of the above are major tasks - as a matter of fact, to avoid the intimidation factor - I broke big tasks up into smaller ones.

If any brehs care to create a to do list and share, it would be appreciated.

I will check back and give updates on my completion.

Bang out, brehs.

Today was a bad start for me today but still managed to get my to do list written up and get on my productive wave.

Hope brehs - both who have made comments in here and also who are lurking - are finding the strength to stay on task.
