Most military folk aren't infantry or even ever go on a patrol in a combat zone.

But to try to answer your question as I understand it, if one person starts firing on a patrol like this with low visibility (hopefully they really confirmed an enemy) and you have grenade lunchers and something like a SAW or some other heavy machine gun, raw suppression fire is a legit strategy.
