I see why they put this on Max & not regular HBO...it's entertaining enough but not a top tier doc. Honestly Heaven's Gate as a cult was more interesting as the idea we have of cults rather than actually being interesting...you can pretty much pinpoint how everything lead to where it did.
With that being said, the one thing that stuck out to me was when the lady said "cults want intelligent people joining them" which is interesting. You look at HG, and a good amount of their members were smart, had a couple of people who were computer savvy back in the mid 90s. All of which tells me being in a cult is no different from people joining any other group, they want to belong to something and have a "purpose". Also white folks just love to think they gotta search for something that explains why they're here
