Wow. WOW.
Laughing is about all I could do once the credits started to roll. First of all, shout out to Mahershala and Viggo for mostly great performances...but that's gonna be where it stops. This movie is so.....Hollywood and bullshyt, it's unreal. It can't even keep track of whether it really wants to address racism or not (it doesn't). Everything's going good until reality brings you back to being a black man in the deep south, then it's all good again...until it's not, again.
Even if I didn't know beforehand, the Doc's story was complete nonsense. Never had fried chicken before?
Matter of fact, he acted like he's never eaten chicken period. The scene where he gets out of the car and laments about how he's not wanted by any aspect of society had all the intensity of a teenage girl whining about getting the wrong colored dress for her birthday. bytch nikka man up
And I'm not sure whether he was really gay or not, but I'm supposed to believe the racist italian from the Bronx with a "heart of gold" can sympathize with not only a black man, but a gay black man?
Not even gonna touch on the final scene where his family magically accepts the Doc at the dinner table MERELY MINUTES after calling him a racial slur in italian.
I'm about all over the place right now and this movie isn't worth me gathering my thoughts properly. Best picture?
