Mubi actually had some Takeshi Miike flicks on their service, mainly the Dead or Alive series. I peeped Dead or Alive the first time like :dwillhuh:"yep that's a Miike flick alright".

Woman in Witness Protection.

:martin:I really want to like this director's flicks (RIP:mjcry:), but they ALL suffer from the same issue (falls all over the place towards the end of the movie). This movie was OKAY, but it just felt drawn out for the sake of goofy dialog.

I guess - why start from scratch when something already exists to build on?

It was alright, I'll definitely be happy to hear some director commentary next watch.

edit - I should probably read the book.

I watched a couple of movies this week.

Wind River - still enjoy this, had a better viewing on my second go round. Heard the use of the word "prairie nikka" to describe the Native American girl and immediately felt the rage she left off on the PMC dude. Renner killed this shyt and it was so great to see Graham Greene and Gil Birmingham with real rounded roles. Native American actors rarely get that so kudos to Taylor Sheridan for making this film.

Two Jack Ryan/Tom Clancy joints: Patriot Games & Clear and Present Danger. Harrison Ford is as charming and talented as ever. James Earl Jones plays a man of conviction and character better than most actors ever, but both of these films directed by Phillip Noyce were hollow. Yes there is action, yes there is suspense, but in both cases the climaxes are lackluster, the stories seem to meander about, being too many movies at once but not coherent enough. There are two ways to look at these movies. Either they are incredibly boring because Tom Clancy is just that type of storyteller in relation to the CIA or they chose the safest director to make these films because the stakes seem very low, especially for stories involving the head brass of the CIA.

fact: The film disappeared after Brecht's widow saw it on television and demanded that it no longer be shown.

did you like it?

Yeah I heard about that when I read about him because of "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul" (Awesome movie btw). Baal was alright, but you can tell it was his first flick due to the fact it was kinda rough.
