Alien: Covenant is like Ridley rewatched Prometheus and said "I can make that dumber". It's a more entertaining movie, but god damn, it's also twice as dumb and the biggest complaint about Prometheus is how fukking stupid everyone is. Well, in Covenant, everyone except one character is dumber than anyone in Prometheus, and that character also more or less shyts on the plot of the movie 30 minutes in. Much like Prometheus, it was a very well shot movie and when it was good it was really good, but when it wasn't it was like as hell. Ridley has all these big ideas and stories he wants to tell, but mixing the Bible, Ancient Astronauts, Milton, Frankenstein, and dikk monsters is not really working out the way I assume he wants it to.

Spider-Man 1 & 2.

1 remains endearingly earnest and campy. A solid origin tale and the blueprint for the astonishingly successful MCU.

It's sequel is as close to a masterpiece as comic book films have gotten. Tightly plotted with earned emotional drama and truly spectacular fight sequences. Among supervillains on the big screen, Molina's Doc Oc is bested only by Ledger's Joker in my book.
