My tribe :blessed:

I've tried to aerate and overseed in the early fall, do a last weed/feed treatment in the late fall, apply pre-emergent late winter, weed/feed treatment early spring, and pray for the rest of the season lol.

My biggest worry is crabgrass. Mid/late summer, it starts showing it's face in my back yard. Initially it was because of my yard being dry, but even with sprinklers it still comes out :scust:

To make things worse, my neighbors have landscapers and Tru Green come out and treat their yards. I like doing it myself, but I may jump to the dark side
Nice!!

What I've come to learn, if u have a problem, there is a YouTube video for that and lawn care is huuuuge there

I don't have grab grass but suspect the long term remedy is to make the grass u want healthier so it crowds out the aggressive crabgrass.

I have true green for one thing, annual lawn arreation and I think I'm going to fire them from that job as they did such a poor job of it a few weeks ago at my house

I'm just kind of in to doing this as a hobby cuz I like it but for others, hiring is the way to go

I'm here to tell u, these are the least complicated methods to improve your lawn, there are manual tools ( not powered ) to accomplish both and inexpensive power tools ( corded/electric) for less than 200 you can use throughout the year. The dethatcher/power rake with a scarifier is the best option in long run imo

127 bucks
They say you shouldn't dethatch bermuda because you'll be destroying the stolons. Either way, it'll be fine. Bermuda is hard to kill. It's basically a weed. I'm just going to wait until next season and scalp down to dirt and bag. I might have to get a company to come out because a rotary mower ain't going to cut it unless your lawn is perfectly flat, mine is not.

My neighbors had their sons dig up the whole front and backyard, and lay pallets about 3 years ago. They had them delivered on the truck. Their lawn is full of those little purple flowers right now.

:damn:

Waste time and money brehs
People underestimate how much water new sod needs to establish roots. I had to learn that the hard way myself.

We’re about to do the back yard, and half will be pavers, and I’m doing pallets on the rest. I plan on purchasing a few sprinklers. We bought some hanging flower baskets the other day at Wegmans since I think the worst of the cold is over. They have nice baskets for only $20. I made a thread a few years ago about my baskets getting stolen a few years ago before I was married. The trail of petals was down the stairs. I felt violated. Had me waking up in the middle of the night like this:

But I have cameras now.

Wasn't aware and did a quick search, u can use the scarifier blade and think that's recommended.

One of my early posts here was a video about what tools are marketed as dethacthing and scarifying so let's see what else we can find to help us and others. I thought that guy made a really good point in his demo

I might buy one of those machines this weekend. You gotta get the ground pretty wet to run it? I was a little concerned with how effective it’d be in our SW clay soil
Curious, suppose I have to do my own research. But wondering how heavy duty that machine is

So here was my weekend.

Earlier in month had 3 yards of topsoil delivered, the time before had ordered 4 yards and that was too much. 3 yards is also too much. fukk, finally worked my way through that with my overseed project.

I just had the backyard to finish for the overseed so I followed the advice of another poster who had a video about the utility of a garden weasel so because it has just rained and I am OCD, I did the whole backyard with this to prep soul for overseed. That was a workout.

Overseeded ( a lot ) and spread out the topsoil ( 1 yard of topsoil weighs about 2500lbs :francis:

Put down straw ( almost entire backyard now covered ) and began watering which should happen at least twice a day.

*One thing I have been neglecting previously was paying attention to soil temp so I got a digital meat thermometer before I started this so I'm hoping this starts to germinate faster because I used to try and do this before soil was warm enough. I am planting primarily tall fescue and rye gras

This is shameful to admit but I have also learned how much I could/am damaging my yard with dull mower blades :francis:

Damn, I am fixing that asap but also wanted to try something new so I ordered a manual reel lawn mower.

Many ppl belive it cuts grass in a much healthier way for your lawn if you are up for mowing frequently ( I am ) and will pick up debris from your lawn ( I do ) so I'll let you know my experience with it later but I am definitely replacing my rotor lawn mower blade

No, I haven't heard anyone advise using it when soil is wet but I can see pros and cons. Pro being u can make deeper grooves? If u want to overseed and a con being it's going to collect mud while operating. I am not an expert so good question

They are very powerful, actually they recommend a higher gauge extension wire when u run it as not to damage it but I have yet to pull the trigger on that but plan to soon

Thanks @RageKage
Also, def been looking into ona them manual reel mowers recently. My mover only goes down to inch and a quarter

What’s yal regular insect control looking like? I been noticing more regular presence of bird digging thru the grass like they finding bugs/grubs. Ants from time to time. Occurred to me that that might be a reason for some of this slowed growth with them shyts eating at the grass roots
