This can be said about many demographics that are portrayed a particular way in the media. See the perception of black Americans in the media as an example. Doesn't mean you have to drink the kool-aid. Accepting his comment would be like me being surprised that by a black American man not fitting their stereotypes as absent fathers, having been to jail, obsessed with jewelry and white women, etc.
And again, I'm not light skinned by any stretch of the imagination, by the way, but often get told i don't "look Haitian" so it's obviously not a dark skin vs light skinned thing. To give you a point of reference people often come up to me in the streets and say they could have easily mistaken me for Tyler Perry.
Again, the same people that be quick to call everything racist be among the ones who say these racist comments.
