You family need to catch up to 2015 breh. I don't know many black families that still use fatback or bacon grease(:wtf:)
My grandma is 70 something and super oldschool. If she makes any vegetables, you can be sure some fatty, salted meat
was the "seasoning" for it. Sometimes it was good (the aforementioned cornbread) and other times it was excessive, like this time
she used salt pork for macaroni and cheese.:francis:

That's your family... I'm from the gutter.... and nobody around my way ate fried foods every day... You still didn't say what they eat..... Let me put it to you like this... If you show me a discrepancy in income, I'll show you a discrepancy in eating habits......

Number 1..... We couldn't even afford to eat meat like that every day.....

Number 2.... Certain foods were prepared because of their shelf life..... Baked meats last longer than fried foods..........

have Swedish meatballs:wow: So as I said, im bushing anyone who doesn't know how to cook a meal that doesn't require a nap

According to these posters.... we were eating smothered porkchops on Monday, fried Catfish on Tuesday, fried chicken on Wednesday, Chitlins on Thursday, Country Fried Steak on Friday, and BBQ Ribs\Pork all through the weekend....

Hell, I don't know too many nikkas that can even "afford" to cook and eat like that everyday

lol I've had those weeks... Skin looking all fukked up by Saturday. shyts all greasy and unformed. :scust:

Knowing some of the health effects of the high cholesterol, fried, fatty foods even tho its part of our culture? Is it taking away from their black heritage by not giving it to them?

I absolutely will. Reflecting back on growing up in the south and learning how to cook from my great aunt, nothing we ate was processed. Soul food includes more than just fried chicken and can be healthy if cooked right an in moderation. Heck one of my favorite healthy snacks is collard greens (with smoked turkey of course).

The only person in my family that fries every damn thing is my momma. Otherwise, when I go home, I'm literally eating vegetables grown in our own backyard. Regardless, I'm making sure my children appreciate at least that aspect of their southern heritage.

She makes it in BULK with 3 different kinds of cheese, rosemary, salt, pepper, milk, butter, etc.
Wanted to try something new and added a bit of that salt pork. It wasn't the worst thing I ever tasted, but it
had this grimey sorta aftertaste that left a layer of wax on the roof of my mouth. The whole thing was repulsive.

I feel ya man....... I used to do that shyt as an adult from time to time.... just splurging and shyt.... nikka be looking like death after about 8-9 days of eating hard like that
