9MM for the lower cost and higher capacity with whatever type of ammo your range requires you to use and something like a Critical Defense hp or even frangible bullet will do. You don't want something that will end up overpenetrating a target and going through a family member or neighbor, so an FMJ is prolly overkill, depending on what your house is made of. :merchant:

(I have a .45 too just in case I needed to shoot a different caliber/zombie apocalypse scenario.)

As far as the rifle vs. shotty debate, I think both can have their pros but unless you're running a carbine or bullpup shotgun, a handgun will still offer better maneuverability inside your house.

Up to you though. Good luck.

opinions of .300 blackout? Heard that being used a lot too
toy caliber unless you got a short barrel rifle and/or pair it with a silencer, i guess you could make a "pistol" but atf is gonna crack down on those later this year. i think they're actually quite fun at the range, the huge concussion looks sick during twilight gat time.
:duck:, unless you're talking about the Match. :camby:
oh so you like em thicc? :dame:
even the worst shooter looks like a god with the 9mm one in their hands, you literally can't miss :ahh:

I’m not a gun owner but why would anyone want an AR for home defense?

It just seems like overkill because wouldn’t it be more effective at range? You’re talking about home defense. How big does your home need to be that you need an AR?

Doesn’t make sense. It’s like buying a long range rifle to guard a bathroom.
Theyre great. Lightweight, easy to maneuver, low recoil. Overpenetration isn't an issue with the right ammo. The real downside is noise. ARs are loud as fukk. Maybe use a suppressed AR pistol in .300blk? I can't get one of those in CA, tho.

For 1st 9mm pistols, Glock 19, Springfield XD, Beretta PX4.

I see you’re m asking about brands and not specific guns too. The best brand to go with that has reasonable prices and amazing quality across the entire line is CZ.

Just keep it simple 9mm ammo is plentiful something like a Glock/CZ etc.

for a rifle I like 5.56 (at) or 7.62x39 (ak)

Basically weapon types that are plentiful and ammo types that are most likely. Basically until you get deeper in the rabbit hole stay basic and improve your fundamentals.

what pistol manufacturer would you recommend then? Glock? Sig Sauer? I kinda want a Colt .45 to just for nostalgia purposes
I have a Sig Sauer P320 and I love it but if you’re going to be carrying go with a P365. I have a Springfield Armory Hellcat that’s the perfect little conceal to carry piece.

Def go 9mm with some hollows.

Edit: if it’s just a range gun P320 for sure. Glock Stan’s won’t agree but it’s way better than a 19 for multiple reasons. Its optic ready, completely modular, and comes stock with night sights

I'd also recommend the SP2022 if you're looking for a budget Sig Sauer.
