what pistol manufacturer would you recommend then? Glock? Sig Sauer? I kinda want a Colt .45 to just for nostalgia purposes

Go to a range that rents them a go with the brand/model that you shoot best with. Longer barrels tend to be a little more "accurate" due to their longer sight radiuses. I'm a fan of .45 but a 9mm will serve you just as well as long as you feed it with quality hollow point ammunition. I'm not a fan of .40 personally unless it's in a heavier gun due to it's snappier recoil. Honestly pistols are sidearms though, a gun to get you to your real gun, go with a rifle if you plan on going to the range a lot or a shotty if you're looking for mainly home protection.

breh don't buy a usp as your first gun, and that's coming from someone who owns like seven of them

since u said home defense just get any mid length 5.56 16" ar-15 from any major manufacturer - s&w/ruger/aero/iwi/fn/sig/adm/etc. but then again if u got a usp budget then maybe u should step up to radian/lmt/hk/triarc/kac/hodge haha.

u can hit my sig for more suggestions but that's rly only for inexpensive guns
Not a fan of ruger, homie you got a god damn hi point for one of the guns!

I’m not a gun owner but why would anyone want an AR for home defense?

It just seems like overkill because wouldn’t it be more effective at range? You’re talking about home defense. How big does your home need to be that you need an AR?

Doesn’t make sense. It’s like buying a long range rifle to guard a bathroom.
let me clarify, the pistol will be for home defense, the AR is just something to have

hi points are great if you only have a hundred bucks - which clearly doesn't apply to you :pachaha:

i think the price is right but it's pretty outdated, i believe every home defense gun needs a light and putting one on is annoying (need to buy an adapter which chews up the frame). the 9mm model has the same capacity as today's micro compacts, these two guns both hold 15. can't put a red dot on it cause the only guy who knew how to mill the slide was some boomer who retired last year. parts are hard to get, i've been looking for a 45tac recoil assembly for like six months now. mags are like 40 bucks and extendos are double that. maintenance is annoying, reassembly is easily top 5 woat among all pistols. if u really like the looks (it IS the prettiest pistol ever ) get a p30 instead, it's the same thing with modern features and creature comforts.

ruger mpr is a really nice rifle for $750, you'd probably spend a couple hundred bucks more building a similar one. throw a vortex 1-4x on that bytch and you have a really nice setup for a rack, i honestly can't think of something off top that brings more value at that price.

bushmaster went out of business like ten years ago, they're called windham weaponry now and have a good reputation. their name gets sold every few years so any bushmaster you find in a store today is likely gonna be made either by remington (awful) or franklin armory (no idea, but i haven't heard any horror stories).

tbh even the most basic ar-15 from a poverty tier manufacturer like anderson/psa is gonna run reliably, it's just a question of how many creature comforts/how nice of a finish you want

I'm the only person that is going to say 7.62x39 (AK-47), when there was an ammo shortage in America, there still was plenty 7.62x39 ammo around, because everybody around the world shoota the 7.62x39 round.

The AK runs dry, wet, dirty, frozen and etc., my

I was just about to get a DDM4V7 and I started reading up on the BCM Reece-16 and they are pretty comparable, but the BCM is about 500 cheaper.

I was looking at the HK USP because it looks sexy, and maybe a bushmaster AR or the Springfield Armorery M1 (based on the m14)

Use is for home defense and the fact I like shooting guns, no I ain't carrying this shyt in public like the Punisher lol
Don't make the mistake of buying expensive guns before you're experienced enough to know what your wants and needs are. What you want and need right now as a starter is not going to be wha your wants and needs are when you have experience.

The Beretta APX is a great, cheap gun that will get you familiar with a decently manufactured gun. Go midsize so thats the APX Centurion. Some manufacturers have the "carry" designation as the smallest version, and some make the "carry" version the mid size gun and the "compact" their smallest version. Example being the Sig P320 (direct competitor to the APX). Their sizes go from smallest to biggest compact>carry>full. Where as the Beretta APX goes carry>centurion>full. The middle guns are usually the shorter barrel but a full size grip from the big gun. Just keep stuff like that in mid when searching for other guns. 1911s are always the best but they are chambered heavy, have low capacity and are expensive because they are steel and not polymer like striker fired guns. $400 on a polymer striker fired 9mm is a good price and I think the APX, or the IWI Masada are good bets. Someone mentioned Springfield XDS and those are good too but more expensive for reasons I still can't explain.
