I was looking at the HK USP because it looks sexy, and maybe a bushmaster AR or the Springfield Armorery M1 (based on the m14)

Use is for home defense and the fact I like shooting guns, no I ain't carrying this shyt in public like the Punisher lol

9.9/10 times gun owners will suggest your standard 9mm as a good start and AR-15 in 556. Both can put down their human target, neither will over penetrate in home defense.

The HK USP is 45acp. You won't get nowhere near as many rounds as a 9mm. The gun is expensive and so are the bullets.
it can be chambered for 9mm as well as .40

Do you know much about guns?

I wouldn't even worry about all that. Just get something simple. A USP will run you $1000 easy. Ammunition goes quick, you looking at 500 rounds minimum which is another $300.
what pistol manufacturer would you recommend then? Glock? Sig Sauer? I kinda want a Colt .45 to just for nostalgia purposes

breh don't buy a usp as your first gun, and that's coming from someone who owns like seven of them

since u said home defense just get any mid length 5.56 16" ar-15 from any major manufacturer - s&w/ruger/aero/iwi/fn/sig/adm/etc. but then again if u got a usp budget then maybe u should step up to radian/lmt/hk/triarc/kac/hodge haha.

u can hit my sig for more suggestions but that's rly only for inexpensive guns

Springfield XD in .45 is 15 rounds.

For home defense, get a shotgun. Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 loaded with 00 buck shot. It will give you more projectiles and it won't over penetrate.

AR for home defense is insane. Your rounds are going to go through your target.
this isn't true if u use the proper ammo. 00 buck and slugs will go thru several layers of drywall. smth like #4 won't but i wouldn't feel comfortable using it to stop a human. meanwhile 62 to 75-ish grain soft point 5.56 won't go thru any layers of drywall while being proven manstoppers. hornady tap is a great example but even random hunting sp ammo will do fine.

I’m not a gun owner but why would anyone want an AR for home defense?

It just seems like overkill because wouldn’t it be more effective at range? You’re talking about home defense. How big does your home need to be that you need an AR?

Doesn’t make sense. It’s like buying a long range rifle to guard a bathroom.
