the lack of workshops, hackathons and hands on development and technical discussions is a severe problem.

cannot be taken seriously if you dont have some of the basics
yea people in here defending the event seem to be missing this part
the actual conference itself is trash. the only redeeming part is the after parties and that's not worth $400 + flight + hotel for those paying for themselves

Again.

For the best conference time. Where it feels like a conference but has that breaks the mold factor.

Go to:

The plastic surgeons convention

AfroTech is owned by Blavity a media company. I doubt anyone putting the conference on knows a damn thing about Tech.

I heard RenderATL at least tries to lean more to being technical. The founder is actually a software engineer

fukk the bullshyt did any of yall actually go :stopitslime: I will say I have a friend in education, and kinda wondered wtf she was doing there, but I refuse to believe its all bullshyt. Imma try to make it next year
I was supposed to go but got tied up. I'm glad I missed it. The ratchets have taken over everything. Can't even have 1's and 0's.

Twerking has nothing to do with CIDR notations, SIEMs, or Risk Analysis.

It's like they saw SQL Injection and thought it was a new and improved BBL method

Never been but hope they bring it back to Austin. The things I heard about it was that there was a lot of networking events, opportunities to meet fellow Blacks in tech which was cool, but it lacked substance in terms of technical workshops, but they had a lot of keynote speakers on topics.

If my company paid for it I'd definitely go, but I wouldn't pay out of pocket and could probably find the free events.

Why does everything that’s supposed to be serious turn into something degenerate.:why:
Women twerking at a tech conference.
Meg The Stallion twerking at democratic rallies.
Rappers, scammers, and comedians speaking at conferences that are supposed to be about financial literacy and wealth building.

This hustle/get the bag culture is a cancer. We need to go back to listening to people with real credentials.
you ain't lying man.

Honestly I don't think it is meant to be this. It was very easy for me to go this year since it was in Houston but I honestly enjoyed it being in Austin. I also am only going as long as my company pays for it.
