Why does everything that’s supposed to be serious turn into something degenerate.:why:
Women twerking at a tech conference.
Meg The Stallion twerking at democratic rallies.
Rappers, scammers, and comedians speaking at conferences that are supposed to be about financial literacy and wealth building.

This hustle/get the bag culture is a cancer. We need to go back to listening to people with real credentials.

Smh Malcolm X warned folks a long time ago and here we are

In the Silver Lining

I was invited to come through, but not in driving distance to attend this weekend. Not in tech either.

Sexbot companies like what do we have here :jbhmm:.... Freaknik for Computers is Diabolical :pachaha:

Seriously, no doubt some good professional networking took place. I hope they tapping into Africa...1.3 billion people, many young w/ cellphones is vast potential.

Been that way for a while
First red flag was when people like Common and Charlemagne were the key note speakers
Guess it's tough to get real people in an industry that's like 3% black and it's already buco tech conferences out there
I know people who aren't in tech who went there and came back talking about dudes they met etc

A whole scam. Should've been trying to figure out how to get more black American ppl in the tech sector, pushing back the Prajeet gatekeeping, but they went for debauchery, as if there isn't enough of that going around with nikkas already. :stopitslime:

It's not that hard finding black people in tech to speak. They just chose to go the entertainer route. It pretty much devolved into a hookup house party

Seems like the organizers have either lost site of the mission or just don't give a fukk.
To be fair what do you expect people to highlight on social media these days? Are they going to post the great connects they made on the expo floor or discuss what they heard during keynotes, or will they post about the free happy hours hosted by companies like Figma etc, or will they just post about the city of Houston capitalizing on hosting the conference this year and attend events that aren't officially attached to Afrotech but just slapped their name on a flyer and then put it in social media as an Afrotech event because that is what will get them engagement. We are our own worst enemy at times. Everybody knows what Houston is about these days, everyone knew what this would turn into once the conference day was over and the company happy hours ended. Were people just going to return to their hotel rooms? Of course not, this is Houston. But who says people can't do both, be professional and attend a professional event during the day and then party a night. I certainly did, but for "image" purposes they should have just kept this in Austin.

I was supposed to go but got tied up. I'm glad I missed it. The ratchets have taken over everything. Can't even have 1's and 0's.

Twerking has nothing to do with CIDR notations, SIEMs, or Risk Analysis.

It's like they saw SQL Injection and thought it was a new and improved BBL method

I've been to a couple of stem based conferences that were about 95% white and I promise you, outside of the actual panels and discussions it's the exact same thing after hours. Night time was basically a huge frat party and if that wasn't your thing, you stayed in.

This is also true. My white coworkers would be out until 2-3am and then at the conference the next day obviously recovering from a hangover and do it all over again. But people just like to shyt on it when it's black people though.

Y'all looking at Houston night life during Afrotech and not what Afrotech brought to Houston. And for a lot of people in tech this is one of the few times they actually get to be surrounded by people that look like them in their industry. They should be able to enjoy that.

I went to the one in Austin a couple years ago, it was pretty cool for the most part, but I was also with family and met up with a few friends in college still so I didn't go out super late. I was able to get an interview with a company just chopping it up with a recruiter there, literally he called and emailed me a few days after the conference finished. I had to turn it down because I was already committed to a company I already accepted an offer from though.
