I guess I follow more federal cases closely, and I knew what to expect in that sentencing, regardless of what the minimums were, so it wasn't a surprise to me, yes, there is a blatant disparity in sentencing, it is written in the laws, but also written across many of the judges who do the sentencing. I get people wanted Manafort's head on a pike, but that didn't happen, and it really didn't change much. He will probably be in his late 70's when he is released, and is still has a long way to go, in terms of restitution, and a financial/professional downfall, he will never recover from. When he comes out, the country will be a different place.
He shouldnt come out, ever. And this joke of a sentence is a bad omen suggesting that if he does come out after several years, the country may indeed be a different place - think 1920s Germany.
she actually shouldn't, it'll raise an outcry about "a vindictive judge", there's no fukkin way she does that

i'd say 5 consecutively
Outcry? :childplease: We're so far beyond pretending to be concerned about the Repubs pretending to be upset about something

Last example, but check this case out, I followed this since the arrest, and I knew he would get a reduced sentence, but I was surprised how low. 36 months for a federal drug possession indictment, 20 kilos of cocaine. Obviously, he cooperated with the prosecutors, but even then, they wanted 67 months. People do 20 years in prison for that. People get 10 years for a quarter of that amount. The federal system isn't as simple as people think, with minimums, there is a comprehensive process, and the judge has a lot of discretion.

Former Dodgers pitcher Esteban Loaiza sentenced to three years on drug charges

Westside Crips Gang Member Sentenced to 82 Months

And, a Westside Crips (fairly lightweight North SD countygang) on a RICO case, the lead defendant received only 82 months.
