Big difference with getting 4-5 dissenters as opposed to 20
They are politicians. Either he retires or he gets impeached. The problem comes in when you factor in sealed indictments. The president isn’t dumb.

am now convinced dem leadership doesn't want to impeach (neither probably does Mueller). I believe the strategy is to keep the investigations open/continuing throughout the 2020 campaign in an effort to weaken trump to the point he's unelectable.
Thing is alot has come out and more is coming out. But elections are around the corner.

I don't think it's off the table and I believe they'll make a go for it in the House which will fail in the Senate which politically will put the republicans in a bad spot.

That signed check cohen produced is bigger than people give it credit for. That's the first time his lies have been met with hard cold irrefutable evidence.

And more to come...
They could impeach now if they really wanted to, but there's no chance of there being 20 Republican Senators who magically find their conscience and could find Cheeto guilty.

Without a 100% guarantee of removal, there could be an unintended consequence of making Trump look stronger for having beat an impeachment before the election and galvanizes his voters and Republicans to stick by him.

Just like with Bush Sr. and Jr. The only thing that would loosen their grip on protecting Trump is the economy to fall badly. Money is the only thing they respect.

the economy is pretty terrible and certainly hasn't made real headway where his base resides...

A guaranteed impeachment would be in 2020 if the Dems take control of the senate and trump when’s re-election... if trump doesn’t win he’s food to SDNY waiting in the wings

Public hearings exposing his financial records and putting everyone around him in prison is a pretty good strategy. He would have to spend his campaign money on lawyers. It’s actually pretty good, especially since the GOP keep supporting him.

There are also going to be people whose family members and loved ones were murdered by those in the gangs, either innocent bystanders, or willing participants, who will say why isn't the federal government doing more to stop the drugs and crime. It's just the nature of this mess. You can't fault the US Attorney for doing his job. It isn't like some Matt Whittaker sham prosecution in Iowa.
