Also, Netflix having the show now should shorten the time in between seasons. There was a long layoff in between season 2 and 3 before Netflix even picked up the show, and a ton of time where there was no writing, no filming, no contract negotiations, etc.

I imagine the numbers/ratings once they added seasons 1 and 2 to Netflix (and now with season 3) have determined a lot about how much money is put into season 4.

Hopefully things run a lot smoother now.

I've always said it's a miracle that this show has made it this far. On paper it never should've been any good, let alone have any solid love from the critics and strong viewership/fandom.

The difference with Cobra Kai is thus. And I don’t know why.

Normally when I see something cheesy or cringey my instinct is to not look or kind of make a face and groan.

When Cobra Kai does something cheesy I’m usually smiling a little bit. Like, when it’s cheesy it seems to me like it’s fully aware of what it’s doing. I think I don’t mind the cheese-factor when it seems like that’s the intention the creators are going for.

Edit: I really respect that this show knows exactly what it is and doesn’t take itself too seriously. In fact, when they do decide to go for some legit touching moments, IMO it works, because they’ve conditioned me elsewhere not to take it seriously. So the more emotional beats do land with me.

Yea they started shopping it to netflix, hulu etc during production on season 3, as youtube decided to get out of the tv production side of things. Took like 6 months to get the deal done with netflix.
