I can’t understand how people are hating, this ain’t hip-hop?? :mindblown:
Yeah, that shyt is mad corny for a supposed hip-hop site. :martin:

CC epitomizes what lyricism USED to be about, but it's a dying art so instead people criticize them for "rappity-rapping" and complain about how their music won't chart so it's therefore unappealing.

Like, what if they personally DON'T CARE about sales like that? :stopitslime:

This reaction vid is comedy

I watch a lot of his reaction videos. He's funny. That said, Eric Jamal is gifted. Really gifted. The other three are nice but Eric Jamal commands the room on all of these. They need an LP though.

Yea. Every group always gotta have a standout. Dude really has crazy potential. On the interview with talib he said the other members told him to study the Goats. At first he didn't have a deep knowledge of the golden era like they did. And that helped him to develop his style. But everyone should check out this interview. You can tell they got deep minds. Mature beyond their years.

There's 36 posts in this thread and you're the only person that has mentioned sales. Lyricism used to be about sitting around a table and animatedly reciting extremely choreographed bars?

The fact that not everyone is fawning over these guys has people manifesting strawmen out of thin air.

Just because youre tall doesn't mean you can play in the NBA and just because you can rhyme words together doesn't mean you're an entertaining rapper.

I've watched a handful of their videos and there wasn't a single quotable that I can really remember. They're performing being lyrical vs making good music imo.

You're just babbling at this point. All their videos gets millions of views so the notion that they're not entertaining holds zero weight. You're not getting millions of views if you're not entertaining people. Even the reaction videos to their freestyles get hundreds of thousands of views. The numbers don't lie buddy. Try harder.

The Harlem Globetrotters sell tickets too. People pay to watch people slap each other. Hopsin has a lot of fans too. Engagement is not indicative of quality.

Like what you like. But I don't think not caring about this means you're not a fan of hip hop or lyricism. I prefer lyricism used to create good music not nostalgia-bait gimmick YouTube videos.

Also, I listened to the album and it was WACK.

Nobody said it did. Now you're the one coming up with strawman arguments. You said they're not entertaining. Engagement may not be indicative of quality but it's absolutely indicative of entertainment. Engagement has literally been the number one indicator of entertainment since the beginning of time. Even before radio and television existed.

The bottom line is that the numbers go against all of your claims. They're getting millions of views and thousands of comments because people genuinely enjoy what they're doing.

I'm sorry but this gotta one of the most try hard statements I've ever read on here :mjlol: .....you understand what they're doing is literally no different than what plenty of the greatest MC's did before them right?....from biggie, to pac, to j Cole, to k dot, to Eminem.

Up and coming rappers rhyming over classic beats is one of hip-hops greatest past times. I mean shyt. Plenty of the greatest rappers released ENTIRE mixtapes rapping over old school beats. Were those also "nostalgic gimmicks" to you?.....because what Coast Contra is doing is absolutely no different. They're just doing it in a much more creative way with high production value. Would it be more "real" to you if they were rapping over a dusty ass casette tape in their backyard?.....smh. You trying way too hard right now. It's 2023. Catch up with the times. Rapping over classic beats is a gimmick now. Wtf :mjlol: :dead:

They're just not for you. You don't have to click any other videos or threads related to them. If nothing has impressed you so far, then nothing will.

I love these guys. I've been aware of them for a while now. The problem is that they are 15 years-20 years too late with this lyricism. There is no room for that shyt today. We are in an era where 21 savage, Lil Baby, Latto, and Ice Spice are seen as top lyricists. These dumb azz kids today won't understand these lyrics or want to hear this.
Who cares? Lyricism can still sell if you’ve got your business tight going the indie route. Lots of money to be made with merch, touring, vinyl drops and being able to license your own shyt to companies

Truth

Dudes on this site would rather argue about Drake's first week numbers (or any other hot industry act)

And people wonder why folks say Hip-Hop is dead :snoop:

Hopsin has a lane and can rap.

He's not my cup of tea but at least he cares about his pen.

That's the point, there is a lane for everyone and this is no different.

I hope more young folks take spitting more serious.

It will never be what's pushed to the masses but the internet makes a lane for everything and if this ain't your thing there are plenty of other threads arguing about record sales and tour numbers.

Again, none of the criticism of this group cited sales or tour numbers. It seems to be setting up this false dichotomy where if you're not impressed/entertained by this you're someone obsessed with sales and that's just not the case.
