Again, none of the criticism of this group cited sales or tour numbers. It seems to be setting up this false dichotomy where if you're not impressed/entertained by this you're someone obsessed with sales and that's just not the case.

Didn't you tag the post below?

They aren't seen as top lyricists… not above drake j Cole Nicki and Kendrick. They don’t sellout tours nor albums. They are just liked rn

Yea. Every group always gotta have a standout. Dude really has crazy potential. On the interview with talib he said the other members told him to study the Goats. At first he didn't have a deep knowledge of the golden era like they did. And that helped him to develop his style. But everyone should check out this interview. You can tell they got deep minds. Mature beyond their years.

dope interview...these are good kids :obama: , I'm rooting for em

I thought he was talking about Coast Contra.
We are in an era where 21 savage, Lil Baby, Latto, and Ice Spice are seen as top lyricists.

Yeah I think he was disputing that all these flavor of the month rappers are seen as top lyricists. They're just what's hot right now.

No. I haven’t listened to them to really have an opinion. As far as “new” lyrical cats I like Deante Hitchcock, Kenny Mason, JID… not just southern tho. Maxo(not cream but he cool)

These guys are the epitome of lyrical miracle. A whole lot of rapping about rapping.
"My lyrics will elevate..."
"My rhymes are like a..."
"With the words I'm a wizard..."
:beli:
Which is cool every now and then as some filler, but these guys just write entire verses full of filler. They can all flow and put words together well, it's just boring as hell. They have no story to tell and nothing to say.

I'm sorry, but lip syncing in front of a microphone while waving their hands around is not going to make this shyt sound any better to me. Try listening to this shyt with no video and see how you feel about it. :manny:

99.9% of all "freestyles" are exactly what you described. Nobody listens to freestyles for a dope story :what: :pachaha: .....They're all just displays of clever wordplay and dope one liners. Even black thoughts 10 minute freestyle was just one long written verse with some cool ooh's and aah's here and there. There was no story there. All freestyles are just wordplay showcases. Always have been.

Yea and the people criticizing keep using the word "performative"....this is like the new buzz word on the e-streets I guess. So a rap performance feels performative?....ya don't say?:ohhh:

It ain't like they're trying to disguise this as some off the cuff freestyle or some shyt. At times all 4 members even start rhyming together. They got bridges and transitions just like a real song. This is obviously MEANT to feel like a performance, so calling it performative as a slight just doesn't make sense.

Being too polished gets backlash nowadays. You have to sound like you started rapping last week because you got tired of trapping or stripping.

Black thought wasn't saying a whole lot of "my words are like.., my flow is like..., my lyrics will..."
:comeon:There was some filler for sure, but those 10 minutes were packed with bars and quotables.

Rapping about rapping is lowest form of songwriting. It's just boring, and why all the backpackers earned a bad name in the early 2000s. It's Eminem style, all technical prowess but with no meat. Yeah they can tell a story, they can flow, they can make some clever rhymes, but they just rap about corny shyt in corny ways. I'm not trying to hear "I spit hot fire" bars in 2023. That's just my opinion :manny:
