I can't help but want to pull for Punk here mainly because I hate how serious "MMA fans" take themselves, us rasslin fans can be silly at times but mma cats are something else. I'm a fan of both forms of entertainment and have been for ages but it was fun seeing that misdirected anger and rage online when Brock beat Randy Couture. Punk beating even a journeyman via stoppage would "break the Internet" as the hipsters are saying

Screw this guy, how can any wrestling fan like this dude? All he does is bait people and when people get fired up he does something else to male them look foolish. All the wrestlers and the reporters commenting on punks interview with colt cabana. Punk turns around and leaves all of them and makes them look like idiots, dudes has no character at all, just a overall pos of a person. I dislike vice but I'd ride for vice or anyone over punk, dude is just a entitled unloyal prick.

Buzzing for this. Is there a date for his first fight? Haven't watched UFC in years but I'll be checking in for this. Can see Punk being a huge draw for them - theres people that idolize him like myself who admire his work rate and what he's managed to achieve against the odds. He's just a regular dude who had a dream and achieved it, his 'no fukks, all against the world' attitude is inspiring. On the flip-side there's so many people that hate him for his obnoxious side and will pay good money in hopes of seing him get knocked the fukk out. Looking forward to this fight and I'm glad he's done this as it's a big fukk you to Vince and co.

No date, but I can't imagine them putting him on before their annual July 4th PPV at the earliest. If he's been training since leaving WWE, that gives him a solid year and a half of healing and training toward the goal of not embarrassing himself out there. I doubt it's enough (even Brock took a year to train before he had his first fight against the legendary Hong-man Choi Min-soo Kim, and he had credentials), but we'll see. At the very least, this'll get pub that UFC has been dying for since Brock left.

(Oh, and someone tell Punk that he should NOT work directly with a Gracie-affiliated camp. Who was the last top tier fighter they produced?)

Slimmest chances of this actually happening, but Punk beating a mid-tier 185-er would be the greatest thing ever. The rage Brock got from "traditionalists" (who completely ignore the pro-wrestling roots of MMA) was the best part of his run by far. :okadayeahhhh:

...of course, then I try to actually ENVISION something like this happening, and I start to think bad thoughts. This is still a HORRIBLE idea from every angle except a financial one.

Is he going to finally get a chance to main event or will he walk out knowing that Brock Lesnar is going to get it once he comes back as well :lupe:

lets be real though, CM Punk is still a bigger name than all of those guys and they would love to get a payday against him. the ufc hasn't been interesting for a long time and this along with Jones/Cormier and Anderson Silva's comeback will bring some buzz back to the UFC

Pretty much. Those dudes would never draw a crowd anywhere big as CM. They need to be focus on winning belts and not on fighting a rookie

:russ: CM Punk thinks just because he studies BJJ that he is ready for the Octagon. He would need to study Wrestling and Boxing, Cardio should be fine, but his Thai game would suck because I don't think his knees are in fair shape after all those Pepsi Plunges.

The only thing Punk should do is commentary.
What would he know about commentating on MMA? He doesn't know the first thing about the myriad types of striking, transitioning into the clinch, and a host of other things. Just because you roll with the Gracies that does NOT mean you'll get anywhere in the Octagon. Look at Roger Gracie, an elite grappler himself who has medalled more than a dozen times. He fared horribly in his UFC debut after a decent run in Strikeforce and got cut. BJJ and wrestling alone is not enough.

But I'll still watch him try to handle getting hit by shins. Feed him Thiago Alves and we'll see if he's destined to be anything close to a gatekeeper :shaq:
