North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Native Americans aren’t Indians. They’re not from fukking India. Referring to them as Indians perpetuates the ignorance of Italian cac.

They’re not native Americans either . That’s a name white people made up. How can you call them Americans when they were here before white people knew this land existed.

I agree with this.

One: Clearly racism, obviously no other race would be allowed to be name of a team. People already posted example of the cleveland whites and shyt.

two: even to this day people are still erroneously calling the indigenous natives of this country indians which is proof of the ignorance if not harm it helps perpetuate.

I don't have a problem with naming a team after a warrior class from a culture, like Braves is the same as Spartans or Samurai etc thats fine.
Naming them after a specific tribe is bit more iffy though, like Seminoles. feel like that is equivalent to naming your team the Celtics. but you should at least have some ties to that community like either the owners ancestry is Seminole or the area you are located is tied to them is some way.

“It’s about damn time.”

Tribe or Guardians.

it’s (finally) over

Personally I like The Tribe, been calling them that for years. Lived here my whole life, love the baseball team, never thought it would change names and over the years the logo as well. I get it with everything going on, just an adjustment to get used to. I think that baseball in my avi is the only thing I have left with the Chief Wahoo logo on it.

To be fair the Boston Celtics is a term for whites from the British Isles but since the term has died out and the average person has no idea what a Celt is, it doesn’t hold any weight.
That's different because it's a specific term and the folk and fans in the region are self-identifying it. Irish folk are Celts and the Boston fanbase is proud of their own Irish heritage. It's like if an Indian Reservation school called themselves the Apaches or a mostly Latino school called themselves the Aztecs.

When folk pick a mascot that's a random general term for an entire different people that they ain't even a part of, that's when it has nothing to do with being proud of your heritage and is just objectifying. Like I said, no one ever chooses to make their mascot "the Caucasians" or "White People".

Just imagine if some hockey team called themselves the "Vancouver Negros" and had some half-assed drawing of a black man as their mascot, but virtually none of their fans, players, or organization was actually black. It's objectifying as fukk even if the word itself isn't a "bad word".

There ain't no "Compton Caucasians" or any other teams named after all White people in general, but all sorts of teams are named after Indians in general, cause Amerikkka views them akin to animal mascots.
All fax. It’s crazy how it’s ingrained into the sports culture to whereas people can’t fully understand how disrespectful it is without digging deep into it.
