As I said, not questioning the quality at all. Probably my fav Roots album. But as you said, not even in hip-hop circles does it get the acknowledgement. So it hasn't received all it needs to be a CLASSIC, rather than a superb project of quality.

I feel you on that breh, but I said "general" hip hop circles.

There's certain hip hop circles where The Roots early albums are already held in the utmost esteem.

As far as judging classic albums, I already consider "superb projects of quality" classics, then wait for the masses to catch up.

Voted for DYWM and Illadelph Halflife. The production on most of TFA doesn't hold up as well IMO.

Top 5 Roots songs:
Section
Proceed
Lazy Afternoon
Respond/React
You Got Me

#coliclassics back :blessed:
I got to go with zero for the Roots :mjcry:
I really liked Illadelph Halflife too :mjcry:
But it's largely been forgotten.
Same with pretty much all their albums on this poll.
Black Though is crazy underrated though :wow:
It doesn't make sense. The Roots had an impeccable reputation through TFA, then Phrenology dropped, and their whole colossal stopped :mjcry:
I can't believe they fukked up and dropped a half ass album :mjcry:
I didn't really rock with them again until How I Got Over. :yeshrug:

I think Illadelph and Things fall Apart are the only two albums that are undeniable classics, with Things Fall Apart being a "more cemented classic" based on its influence and recognition in the hip hop community,

They been so consistent the past 20+ years but they lost me for a minute with Phrenology

I actually haven't listened to them since phrenology but things fall apart and illadelph halflife are easy end to end classics.

What d'you make of The Roots opting to do live instrumentation in hip-hop?

How would you say their production compares to other acts in hip-hop known for production e.g. Wu-Tang or Dr. Dre or Kanye etc.
