I feel like when it comes to WRPGs and JRPGs people have a preference and it's usually a hard one. People into JRPGs more are unlikely to put the newest highest profile one on the backburner for a WRPG. The reality is WRPGs are more popular though. They're different, but RPG fans generally rally around any new big RPG. Reddit almost crashed yesterday when they announced the Oblivion event for today. If it shadow drops, it'll dominate gaming news for the next two weeks.
