When left unchecked, Muslims who are poor will almost always revert to Jihad as a way out of their situation. Northern Nigeria is mostly muslim and is the poorest region in the country. Yes, and no. The intelligence community had already been warning that Al Qaeda was going to pivot to west Africa after America took care of Isis. A lot of the turmoil you see rights now is a result of all the random jihadist attacks that have been popping up. Now, multiple Nigerian tribes want to create their own country, to avoid all the chaos from these attacks.

To answer your question, South eastern Nigeria has the most oil. This is one of the main reasons they had trouble when they were trying to seceded back in the day (Biafran war).

That shyt is kinda sad. Seems like there’s never really been any Pan-Nigerian ideology ever other than the need for independence from Britain.

I spoke about this in one of the Discords before, hopefully ECOWAS is a fully integrated regional state when this happens so Nigeria can more safely split into separate entities while still being advocated for by a larger governmental/economic framework.

I’m a believer in regional statehood. I think it’s nonsense that Africa has so many countries. It should just be 4 or 5 larger, regional blocs. As currently constituted, Africa is vulnerable to neocolonialism and other forms of modern exploitation.

Sorry to hit you up so much later than you posted this, but wouldn't a functional African Union solve these issues significantly? I'm a big backer of a functional AU because that would give these smaller countries the leeway to make social policies that fit their ethnic groups while still having a shared economic vision across the continent.

And an AU military would be one with the money and troops to stand up to anyone in the world.

I see. Even so, it's the same as it's always been. Substantial mineral deposits, ethnic/political/religious strife resulting in unrest, violence and eventually civil war. As hard as it is to bear, regardless of what it's about for the people who are going to be doing the suffering and dying, it's about something else entirely for those who will be funding this war and providing the training and weapons.

This Sars thing is a bit odd to me. This has been going on for years. But literally as recent as 2 weeks ago most off these Nigerians folks I see online never mentioned a word about this.

Now every second its sars out.

Same thing with BLM, Aframs been getting killed by police for years with barely any noise but all of a sudden a few months ago everyone screamed #BlsckLivesMatter and protested all over the world.

Sometimes it takes time for a movement to reach its peak and usually it requires a certain turn of events to spark that level of flame inside of people.
